18s vs 19s....NEED HONEST OPINION...I CANT DECIDE!! HELP!!
ok fellas,
i have researched and pm'ed some ppl already but still cant decide btwn 18s or 19s. i currently have 17s on the car and want to get 19s. but after reading on the forums, im gettin too many mixed reviews of ppl w/ 18s and ppl w/ 19s. Anybody have both? gone from 18s to 19s? is the ride really that horrible?...PLEASE CHIME IN.....if i get the 19s, i plan to beef them up with 245/35/19 tires. 19s kust look waayyy better to me and 18s look small but i hear they are a compromise btwn 17s and 19s. im on the aspec suspension btw. let me know ur thoughts please....

well in my opinion, im def. gonna have to say 19's! i have 19's on my 02 and its hammered on Apexi suspension, and it rides perfectly fine. . my buddy GUNNER has 19's on his 04 tl which is your body style, and his is hammered as well on the TEIN SS suspension, and it also rides awesome. . im also with you about the 18's looking too small! GO 19's!!

ok i'll help you out. when i first got my car i was on comptech springs and aspec wheels.. i had a 235/45 tire on them and it was a stiff ride but not bad at all ... then i upgraded my supsension to tein ss coilovers left it at the same drop ,and put 19s on with a 245/35 tire.i didnt feel much ride difference still road pretty good and looked good to. then i went from 19s back to 18s with a 245/45 tire had to slam the car a bit more to make it look better. with the 18s but the ride is still good prob alittle bit more bouncy since i lowered it another inch with the 18s.what i did notice is how much more weight the 19s were when i put the 18s on the car was alot faster esp on the highway.
another thing you when want to take in to account is the price of 19s.everything is alot more money rims and tires are more . just remember if you ever need to replace a tire it is pretty pricey or a rim. just be prepared to spend money with the 19s. 18s are cheaper the rims are cheaper and the tires are cheaper. i m prob gonna stick with 18s bc of how it rides and because of expense. hope this helps

thanks guys...preciate it. if i were to go with the 19s, i would probably only have em on in the spring, summa, and fall.
milkman, do u think there is a noticeable difference between the ride comfort of 18s and 19s?? is ur review based on just highway driving? or bad roads as well? sorry for all the questions

They're around here somewhere. Some in the wheel pic thread (the one that's stickied in this section), and there are some in a couple of photoshoot threads with ACCURATEin in the photography section. All of the ones I have are on Photobucket, which I can no longer access at work, so I can't repost them here.

i'd say stay away from 19's - of course, it depends on your driving habits, etc
if you want that "bigger rim" look go for a set of wheels with a very small sidewall, and drop that sucker! my 18's get comments all the time - "are those 19s? 20s?"

19s definetly look better no question about that but you're gonna sacrifice a lot for that. I used to have 19 and after 2 year of bullshit and never a consistend good ride i gave up and went with 18" and belive me i couldnt be more happy. 19 ride ok no problem but only when they are new. hit couple of potholes and u will think wasnt bad but actually they got bent. Alignment gets thrown off and also once u start fixing those rims they will never ride the same way.
all in all.... to much money to maintain and to much headache. Cant drive normal always gotta look out for even the slightes holes and of course the shity ride and the performance, just for somebody to tell u oh man those 19 really look good
when i look at the car i wanna see that everything flows together and with that the whole car should look good not only be fixated on rims.

If your rims have a large lip, go 19.
If you want rims with no lip, 18 is fine.
If you want rims with no lip, 18 is fine.
245/35-19, diameter is 25.75.

18s vs. 19s is a close call. I suspect if you live where roads are good 19s are the way to go if you can live with the $$$ and more risk of tire and rim damage. They're not that functional (see below). If you have to put up with a "four season climate" and the resulting pavement/pothole issues, then maybe 18s.
Search these fourms and you'll see folks changing back and forth. The optimum setup is different for each of us.
If you have boy-racer tendencies (I do....), you may want to pass on 19s. The rapid break away at the limits of adhesion doesn't help you get around corners quickly; nor is it fun. If you're slammed, then you suffer from other issues such as rapid/bad camber change when you hit a bump even if in-spec camber is dialed in staticly. Plus, there just isn't enough roll stiffness on a TL pretty much regardless of setup to keep 19s with their short sidewalls on the pavement when you need it most.
Just my $0.02 worth. YMMV.

I went from 19's to 18's, and i could definetely feel the difference in ride quality. I hated my 19's because it looked kinda weird on my car even though I was dropped a good amount. Plus I freakin bent the wheel the first day I owned it -_-;;

I had an 07 TL-S with 18" Volk RE-30's and just Eibach Pro springs, now I have an 06 TL with 19" wheels and Tein SS lowered about 1.5" and the shocks set to the center damping and it rides better then the 18" wheels and just springs.

I am in the market to purchase a pair of 18's as well as springs. I was looking at some TIEN springs for about an 1.6 rear 1.5 front drop. What do you all think? I have an 08 TL Black. What combo should I look at?
#31
Hey guys, I am thinking of putting 18'' in the front and 19'' in the rear. Have any of you seen this on a TL yet? If so, do you think you could post a pic so that I could take a look.

Does anyone have 19's on 40 series tires? I looked through the all pic thread and didn't find that combo except for someone that had a 40 front / 35 rear setup with 19's.
I'd imagine if people are running 20's with 35 series, you should be able to run 19's with a 40 series tire. That should help a little with the ride quality since you have a thicker tire.
