18 x 7.5 Wheels How many running?

when you say PA, are you talking about the road conditions? if so, there wouldn't be any more protection choosing one over the other. a 7.5 wide rim would run either 225 or 235, but the 18 would take a 40 series tire and the 17s would take a 45 series tire. that 5% difference does not amount to much in terms of extra sidewall height. you can run a 50 series tire on the 17 (like stock tl-s) but still not much more. you just gotta be more cautious when you drive, that's all.
i run 18x7.5s with a 225/40 tire. the offset is a +42mm and it kinda rubs a lil so you will want to get something a lil higher. if you intend on going with wider tires, definitely get something higher. at least a 45 usually does it for a 7.5 with 225/40. 8s of course require something closer to 50. etc...

for the Question bam7276 asked, i would run a 18x7.5 with a 225/40. if you find a rim with a +47 or hogher you could get your self into a 235 width tire

Definately +45 or above. I run an O.Z. Superleggera 18x8, +45 w/ 235/40/18. I had to trim some plastic on the rears but never had to touch metal. It was easy but took a few times to eliminate the rub completely. Some masking tape, a dremel, and a utility knife is all you need.

my wheel is 18x7.5.....offset is 48...i rub with a 225/45/18 tire...tire is .5 inch oversized...and their SO3's so the sidewall is alot thick then other tires....the sidewall comes over the edge of rim over a 1/4 inch at minimum
