18 x 7.5 Wheels How many running?

Looking at wheels for my new 2000 TL. Who recommends 18 or 17 in PA? Size tires on these?

Thanks

when you say PA, are you talking about the road conditions? if so, there wouldn't be any more protection choosing one over the other. a 7.5 wide rim would run either 225 or 235, but the 18 would take a 40 series tire and the 17s would take a 45 series tire. that 5% difference does not amount to much in terms of extra sidewall height. you can run a 50 series tire on the 17 (like stock tl-s) but still not much more. you just gotta be more cautious when you drive, that's all.

i run 18x7.5s with a 225/40 tire. the offset is a +42mm and it kinda rubs a lil so you will want to get something a lil higher. if you intend on going with wider tires, definitely get something higher. at least a 45 usually does it for a 7.5 with 225/40. 8s of course require something closer to 50. etc...

the key is to just stay above a +45 offset so that you dont have those issues.

for the Question bam7276 asked, i would run a 18x7.5 with a 225/40. if you find a rim with a +47 or hogher you could get your self into a 235 width tire

Definately +45 or above. I run an O.Z. Superleggera 18x8, +45 w/ 235/40/18. I had to trim some plastic on the rears but never had to touch metal. It was easy but took a few times to eliminate the rub completely. Some masking tape, a dremel, and a utility knife is all you need.

I'm looking at Nakayama Vador 5's, and gonna use 225/40R18 tires. Rims are 18x7.5. Will the +45 allow me to avoid rubbing, especially when i'm turning the steering wheel all the way??

my wheel is 18x7.5.....offset is 48...i rub with a 225/45/18 tire...tire is .5 inch oversized...and their SO3's so the sidewall is alot thick then other tires....the sidewall comes over the edge of rim over a 1/4 inch at minimum

I have a camber kit so it played more of a factor in terms of rubbing. however, a 42 rubbed slightly so part of the bumper was trimmed but the metal lip that forms the arch was not. this was with pirelli p7000ss. i then switched to bridgestone re750s in the same size and now it rubs the metal lip. i trimmed that too and it's better now. tize design matters but getting a good offset that provides "headroom" to grow is what will make your life easy.

i have 18 by 7.5 with 45 offset and 235 tires. I rubbed, but after cutting the tabs, its ok now, and i'm not lowered either. if u plan to lower ur car, then go with a higher offset to be safe

Crap... forgot to mention I was lowered. I used H&R Sports 1.75/1.5 drop. Dunno how much that'll effect me.
