18" wheel size limitations with underbody molding!!
I recently posted a thread about a tire problem I had with my '04 TL. See the link below:

I just heard from the dealer today that the 245/40ZR18's are the wrong tires for the car, which is causing the tires to rub against the rear underbody spoiler. The size they recommend is 235/40/VR18.
If you're contemplating bigger tires, consider this advice -- you may have to modify underbody spoiler setup. While I didn't have any problems under normal driving, when I hit a significant dip in the road, the tires rubbed...

You must have a different offset on the wheels than stock, or your car is lowered. I can't believe 1/3" or less was all the margin of error you had. Please let us know if you where lowered, and exactly what width and offset your wheels are.

Just got the car back tonight. The wheels look significantly smaller on the car now. And man, do they look funny! Tires are way to small for those rims... could easily fit 255s, but the body work won't tolerate that -- total bummer.
The difference in height on the tires is .160", which is less than 3/16 of an inch. Seems trivial, but I guess I'll find out next time I hit a dip
Here's a picture of the rims I have:
