'06 TL Struts

I have 52k miles on my 06 TL. I started noticing a lot of roadnoise coming from my Goodyear Eagles which were installed about 6k miles ago. I went to my Goodyear dealer and he showed me some cupping taking place on one of the front tires. When I say cupping, I don't mean recesses in the middle of the tread, rather uneven ridges from groove to groove on the edge of the tire. He suggested that I needed new struts. He did specify KYB's as replacments all the way around...but for $1200 ??
1. How long do you guys see struts lasting?
2. How long does Acura warranty struts? Since there is nothing in the warranty handbook, probably until I drove off the lot.
3. If you all do indeed think I need new struts with 52k miles on it, how hard to install myself?

thanks in advance....

1. I'd expect *at least* 75K -100k on a stock, day-to-day driver.

2. - They are "wear & tear" items, but could be covered up to the normal 50,000 mile warranty.

3. Doubt it, but I don't know how to check for sure. No obvious signs of leaks, bounciness, etc?

Depending on your skill level: 3 - 6 hours. You've got to remove the back seat to get at ther rears and you'll have to move the springs over to the new struts. An extra set of hands is a big plus. See the link below for DIY.

Thanks for the reply Bearcat.....yea, I got the Goodyear Eagle F1's because of the excess roadnoise I had with the stock Michlelins...and I wanted a better handling tire. Now the Goodyears are 5 times worse for roadnoise then stock.... and the cupping problem as explained below.
The Goodyears were great at first, but now if I get new shocks, as the Goodyear dealer suggested, I'll bet I still get the roadnoise.
I too would expect stock struts to last longer then 50k....no, no obvious signs of leakage and zero bounce.
Kinda between a rock and a hard place here.

dont do that work at a goodyear dealer.. Unless your wealthy. I would check around for just an average shock or even KYB's. You can get KYB's on ebay for pretty cheap. http://cgi.ebay.com/KYB-GR-2-SHOCKS-...d=p3286.c0.m14

You can get shocks and struts installed for much less than 1200. wow. thats just crazy to me.

Have you had it aligned & balanced? It seldom cures it but it did cure it on mine. I had the front right cupping like that and I moved the tire to the rear after the alignment and no issues now.

Have a read

Definately do an alignment first. It's doubtful it's the shocks. These cars use shocks, not struts so it's much cheaper than $1,200. Even the Koni adjustables are only $600 for all 4. If they were struts, $1,200 would be about right.

The alignment will indicate the angles and if they need to be adjusted. If out of spec then adjusted, rotate the tires and keep an eye on the wear, but won't change the noise. If you do a search many complaints about the GY tires.
