05 TL w/ Navi WDP - bought August 05
MAINE
Got the car inspected today and dealership almost didn't pass because side tread was so low. I've got 16,200 miles on this car - trust me when I say that I baby this thing like crazy. How can it need new tires? I drive the speed limit (because cops around here suck) - No wheel spinning or anything...
I've had the tires rotated once already according to the service manual...
Any suggestions? I'm thinking Acura should replace these under warranty - I've never had to buy new tires for a vehicle in the first 2 years.
Please help!

Which side tread? inner or outer edge, both are alignment problems
Your book may vary- my Gen2 calls for rotation every 7500 miles
Is your car lowered?
With the weight of the car and braking forces, I would expect the tires and brakes to last about 20 thousand for the fronts
Warranty? Not likely- due to wear- find out whats not in the right setting

you might have either the el42's or the mxmh4's. These are very soft tires tat wear down pretty quick, and the el's are crappy. I'd suggest getting an alignment, balancing and some good tires for the car.

Yeah I have the Michelin's .... The wear is on the outer edge. It's not an alignment issue and I check the pressure once a month - none of the early wear adds up to me...
Still not sure what to do. Will be speaking with Acura and Michelin to see what's up.
Any more comments.. PLEASE RESPOND! Thanks!

If the wear is on the outer edge, I'm pretty sure you have an alignment issue or you always take corners like a mad man. Have you checked the alignment yet?
csmeance, I agree that the EL42 wears pretty quickly, but the Michelin MXM4 has some hard rubber compounds. They should last longer than the EL42s.

My '05 has at least 50% treadwear left on the Michelin MXMs at 17,000 miles; just got 2nd rotation. No premature or unusual wear issues at all. I'm surprised that they are wearing so well in light of the "W" speed rating.

I have a 05 auto navi with just under 25,000 miles. I do have fun in the corners when I can and I am not as regular with pressure checks.
These tires have been through two PA winter and hot summers. I am expecting to last until atleast thirty thousand miles and I may pass my next inspection in September of 2007.
I have had a very favorable experience with the michelins. You may be able to receive partial coverage from michelin but I would not expect any compensation from Honda/Acura.

I have 32,000 miles and still have a good bit of tread left on my Michelin MXM4 Pilots.
My car is almost identical to the one with only 16,000 miles. Do you have Michelin tires?
