$488 credit from Michelin

Shortly after I bought my TL, I purchased a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.
They wore very quickly on the inside edge of each tire. It looks like an alignment issue, but I've had the alignment checked several times, and it's always been in spec.

I finally called up Michelin yesterday, and they referred me to Discount Tire for an inspection. After the inspection and a few calls, Michelin agreed to give me a $488 credit toward a new set of tires. This credit is only good if I use it in the next 10 days though, on a Michelin, BFG or Uniroyal tire.

I'm about to throw on my winter wheels/tires next weekend, so I'll probably just buy a set of summers and sit on them for a while. I'm thinking BFG G-Force Sport's. Does anyone have experience with these, or want to recommend another summer tire for $500? (give or take)
My two main criteria: good treadwear & stiff sidewall/steering response.

BF Goodrich G Force KDW-2 are honestly someof the best summer tires I have ever had, they grip unbelievably well indry and wetconditions, and really allow you to fully push the carslimits. Plus at $165ish per tire in 17-18", they are a great summer tire. They are def a true summer tire and don't do well in temps below 40 degrees.

They are badass looking tires, are they noisy?

Pilot PS2 or the new PS3 (?) or Pilot PSS.

My Pilot Sport A/S Plus did the same thing (but I beat the living shit of them when they were new). I got a 1/3 credit; about $60 per tire. I stayed with the A/S Plus. How can you beat 'em at $120 each??

Where did you get Pilot Sport A/S Plus for $120 each?? I got mine for $175 on tirerack, and I thought that was a good deal.

I have to use my credit through Discount Tire though, so the price on pretty much everything is marked up significantly more than it would be from an online store.

$180 - the $60 credit per tire.

You can get the Pilot Sport (PS or PSS) summer tire, basically at about 1/2 price after the credit. By all reports the PS2 are a really good tire; I'd expect the PSS to be as good or better.

Okay, I see what you mean now.

I got 65% credit on mine. It would have been more, but I had no documentation that my snow tires were on for 5-6,000 miles last winter.
The tread on the inside of the Pilot Sport A/S was down to 1/32, with 16,000 miles on them.

Unfortunately, I'm not looking to spend much at all on top of my credit. I spent $800 after mounting and balancing these tires, because I expected them to last me 3+ years. My budget doesn't have much room for new tires, at the moment. (why I'm leaning toward the BFG G-Force Sport)

Inside edge wear is caused by toe-out and it can be worsened by excessive camber. Don't the early 3G TLs have a rear suspension issue that causes the alignment to change very rapidly with a loaded trunk/extra cargo?

Were all four tires worn the same way? Do you have any pics?
What were the final specs on your alignment?

I'm surprised that Michelin gave you a credit on the tires, when an obvious alignment/suspension issue was at work here.

I had them on my RSX, and they were very noisy. It was so bad, that I replaced them with about 40% thread life left. They handled well, but I couldn't deal with that noise.

I've had alignment checked three times since the tires were put on, and it's always been in spec. I'll post up the most recent numbers when I get the sheet out of my car. Will take pictures of the tires as well, when I take the wheels off next week.

The thing that surprised me was not that they gave me a large credit (I'm glad they did though!), but the fact that no one ever asked me for documentation of the alignments done on the car.

It makes sense that carrying extra weight alters the geometry, and may have contributed to the irregular wear. However, my snow tires wore very evenly last winter. The majority of their use was going on ski trips, carrying 4 people + ski gear in the car.

I made to 30,000. Guess that's the difference in the credits. Had similar wear to yours - inside edges. All 4 tires, although one was worse than the other 3 (don't remember which). Center tread on all 4 was around 2/32nds.

IIRC, they wore pretty even down to about 5 or 6/32nds, then seemed wear much faster, with the difference on the inside edges becoming more pronounced.

I did have the seller do 3 alignments and 3 rotations (all documented) during the life of that set.

I would get the pilot super sports from Michelins. I got them in 245 40 18 for my aspec and am in love with them. Look into them when you get a chance.

I have the KDW2 and they are great summer tires. They are noisy tires and yes, noisier than the Pilot A/S. That is probably my only gripe about them. I am probably going to get the Pilot SS a try next.
