Yet Another Rear Deck Rattle Saga...

Let me start by saying that the TL has some nice Bass. Many of my friends ask me if I have aftermarket subs in the trunk after riding in the car(which I dont). However, I think blasting the music most of the time may have caused some rattles in the rear deck area. So, I sent it in to my dealer and they added some clips or something, but the car came back sounding worse.

Ive been in and out of the 3g forum. I dont have the time to remove the seats, so I climbed into the trunk and took off the liner.... I played shake it off remix....a song with veryy deep bass frequencies to test for rattles. The sound in my case is coming from the middle seatbelt retentioner or actuator watever its called. Its the gold thing in the pic with the barcode on it.. any way it has a clear plastic cover on the side that protects its inner workings, and every time the sub hits, something inside there shakes around, I can see it looks like a pinhead or screw (very small) so I secured the entire gold thing to holes in the steel with some plastic ties, covered it with foam tape, and wrapped it in duct tape. I made sure my work did not screw up my seatbelt and then tested...rattles gone

I hope this helps anyone who still can't find their rear deck rattle...

Hmm. Is the rattling only come from that particulr spot? Because I found a way to fix my rattling and it works really well. what I did was before I took off the lining of my trunk i turned on a song with a lot of bass and just walked to the back of the car near the back window to see if i could hear it or see anything moving around. Turns on that on my rear deck behine the speakers there is a vent with about 3-4 slots in it, and it runs along the whole back window. I noticed that it was moving up and down and rattling on whatever was underneath it. I then took out the lining and got into the trunk. Inside you can see/ feel the plastic part that was causing the rattling. I went to Lowes and bought some 1/2 inch weather stripping and put that inbetween the plastic and the mettal. I ended up doubling up on the tape after I checked to see if there was any rattling because there was still minor rattling so, maybe an inch think or 3/4th would do the trick for you.

hi there, mine too had a similiar problem when I got my car for 4 months. I brought it back to the dealer and asked them fix it! They didn't know what the problem was and I even took the technician in the car and played the CD, nothing. I insisted to have the subwoofer replaced. They did but rattling persisted. I left it for about 5 months hoping it's only a temp. condition but one day, I said to myself, I had it!!! Can't stand that annoying rattling noise anymore, so I took it back to the dealer and I was prepare to fight for it. The service advisor told me they will look at it. Then 1 hour later, got a call from them and said it's fixed! So I asked what was the problem. He said the sub was making the deck vibrate and they had put some sort of rubber cushion to absorb it. The rattling noise is gone! Every since then I am a happy driver blasting CDs on my way home from work. I guess back then they didn't know what the problem really was coz' perhaps I was the first person to raise that problem. Now that they are more experienced they know the problem right away, no questions asked.
