Window regulator issues, possible to only replace the cable?

Hello all, I have a 2004 TL, base model 5AT. About a month ago the driver's side window would only go down about 3/4 of the way down and then slowly come to a stop. I figured that there was something wrong with the regulator, but I didn't take apart the door panel to look at it. I kept using the window when I needed to (probably not the best thing to do). A few days ago I rolled the window down and it wouldn't go back up, so I repeatedly pressed the button to get it to go back up, but it kept going down. Then I heard some noises within the door, sounding like the cable busted or something. If I press the button, the motor is still running, however the window does not move. I have read the various threads on here and around the net on how to take the door panel off and replace the regulator. The only thing I'm wondering, is it possible to just replace the cable rather than the whole regulator?
