Winding sound from engine bay
There is this wierd winding sound coming from my engine bay every time I accelerate. The car sounds slightly different at idle as well. At first I thought it was a bad ground from my recently installed system, but as I was reving my car next to a friend he said he could hear it from the engine bay. So it basically sounds like I got a supercharger, I wish haha. What is this mysterious sound?
and how do I fix it?

Ok I'm getting the same thing. I didn't make a post cuz I thought I was hearing shit but your right it's like a whistling noise. I don't mind it too much, kinda sounds cool!
But I'm still curious to know what it could be?

i'm getting a noise as well, but not from the steering,, the only thing i changed on the car was a battery, i wound up getting a slightly smaller battery at the time because i NEEDED it just to get the car from A to B, ect,, would a smaller battery than stock cause this noise?
,, it sounds like... hard to describe,, like feedback coming thru the entire electrical system but you don't just hear it from the engine bay,, you can walk all around my car and hear it LOUD.....
only reason i think it's not the battery is because when the car is started, the car is not running off the battery anymore, it runs off the alternator..... but wondering if i put "the right size battery back in, would it fix this?" i've done nothing electrical to my car other than a battery swap and now the noise....

Hmm, I recently reset my ecu. If the dealer told you its just the tranny getting used to your driving habits, maybe they reset the ecu too?
But I wonder why it makes that noise though, and how long this period of driving habit recognition lasts

a high pitch sound heard throughout the engine bay and outside of the car anywhere you stand... man someones gotta know the answer to this problem. i thought the sound was going away when i would accelerate, but it didn't, the engine noise itself was only masking the sound.

A couple of common problems with 3g TLs could be at play here. I am also dealing with a similar issue and have not been able to set aside the time to diagnose yet.
#1 - AC Delco alternator - Some TLs (and Accords) were equipped with a Delco brand Alt. that is apparently junk and prone to failure.
#2 - Timing belt tensioner pulley - somehow loses its lubrication and starts making noise. Usually there is a slight rattle associated with this as well.
In my case, Ilean towards it being #2. Mostly because I have the rattle, but also because it only does it when cold. To me, having heard an alternator whine before, I wouldn't think that noise would subside. Whereas with the tensioner pulley, I can logically guess that it goes away because as it warms, the grease left in the pulley distributes.
Hope this helps & when I figure out what is wrong with mine I will post.

After posting the above, I also found this https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/diy-105-power-steering-whine-fix-754586/ . Clicking on the sound clip in the TSB has diagnosed my problem for me. Just goes to show, you cant believe everything your mechanic buddy tells you (see above post).

I was not aware of ANY TL being equipped with A/C delco alternator since all the parts are listed as Japanese (DENSO) when you go look them up. Only the 6th gen accord V6 had those POS alts. Starting with 7th gen they went back to DENSO

That may very well be true. I got that info I got from my mech. and he very well may have made the assumption that the Accords and TLs were more alike than they actually are.

alright i'm taking a video of this noise, it's ridiculous,, i know it's not the powersteering, i checked for air bubbles in the reserve.. all is fine there, car on, car off.... i did digital voltage check on the alternator,, getting good 14-14.7 from it... tension on the belt was strong, was able to move the tensionor pulley a bit,, started car,, noise went away for a minute,, thought i figured it out,, but then came back,, the noise is not coming from that low in the engine bay,, it's loudest, and definitly sure it's coming from the top of the intake manifold by the largest pulley by the windshield,, going to take the video now

crisis over... i'll post the videos anyway,, i can't believe what it was....

at that point, we were like oh it's gotta be something with the pulley's and belt system, bearings.. i was like great here we go again shelling out a crap load of money for guess and check parts.... then my father asks me,, when's the last time you took this IM cover off,, i was like i don't know a few weeks ago? he says it sounds like air, but how?? i'm like i don't know,, both thinking very deeply and hard about it.. then we do a test... i'll name this the BANG ON YOUR ENGINE IF ALL ELSE FAILS TEST (video below)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrMPj2SaH9k
and he guessed right.. it was the IM cover not properly torqued down,, we tightened eveery bolt,, disturbing noise gone!!! i am just so happy that it was a dumb error on my part and not a part of the engine failing (kicks self in ass)
sorry for wasting anybodys time who replied in this thread

yep- always recheck whatever the last thing done to the car was before suspecting other things
Also things that get hot should be retorqued after 500 miles- a few may loosen slightly and cause air leaks~
Applies to intake and exhaust parts- always check the torque again

Next time rub some bubble solution around the gasket & you'll find the leak or take a long tube and run it from your ear around the gasket area, you should easily hear the leak as well. Don't overtorque the IM cover bolts, more than one member has stripped or broken one.
