Where to begin? ODOMETER FRAUD, CHANGED DASH, SLIPPING TRANSMISSION, SHIFTING F'D UP

Hello, nice to meet you all. My first time posting on Acurazine....

Ok, so where do I begin?

I bought a 2004 A/T Acura TL about a month ago. The first few hours I drove it, the car's transmission started slipping. It would've shift out of 3rd gear. And it would downshift VERY hard from 3rd to 2nd like the car just got rear ended. So my mechanic took the car to air care and found out the actual mileage on the car was 210k, I got it at 131k. I was pissed because I bought the car for 12k. Bought my first car for 12k and I can't even drive it for a whole day... but have learned my lesson the very hard way...

Me and my mechanic try to figure out how do we fix the transmission problem... My mechanic took the car into an Acura dealership for a free scope(not free, but for a bottle of grey goose). There was a code P700 and a 3rd gear pressure switch being high. I did a little research and thought it was maybe the 3rd gear pressure switch? So maybe I thought that was the problem. I got that fixed.... and well, problem still persisted after a few hours of driving.. At this point I'm really pissed off..

SO... I am thinking about what the dude at the dealership said.. He said since the dash clusted was changed. They have to reprogram the dash? So we have to sync the TCM and dash together? The fuel reading is also off. He said it would cost approximately $2000? My mechanic says he could try to get a deal out of him. I want to know if this is actually the problem because I don't want to pay that much money if the tranny is going to be acting up again.. I tried the TCM idle relearn procedure, and did not work either.. So.. is this actually computer reprogram issue?

On another note, legally I am going to try to sue this kid for more than just fraud.. Maybe emotional distress and other things. I am going to try to take it to federal court, if not small claims.. I want him to go to jail for putting me through this bullshit. He clearly changed it. Me and my mechanic have built up a case.. The evidence we have found clearly states he had it last when he gave me the car at 130k.. Air care had it at 205k, and then a repo company had it at 210k, then this kid gave me the car at 130k? He said some chinese guy had it before him when the repo company had it before him.. and they have to sell it legally to him too..

Well yea.. thats my story..... Any feed back would be awesome from you experienced TL owners, and maybe a lawyer....

Mainly, I'd like to know if reprogramming the dash to the car would fix the my tranny problems.

Thank you.

Well, you should test drive and inspect BEFORE buying. You know that now.

Not sure if your 'mechanic' is helping a lot since he seems to rely mostly on Acura.

As far as the Trans, you can also try changing out the 2nd gear pressure sensor; maybe a couple of other things.

BUT it sounds like your trans is fried.

I did test drive it. The problems don't occur until after about one of two hours. Yea I should've waited another day or two before buying it. Transmission fried? I don't know.. it seems to be shifting perfectly fine.. Just not after a few hours.. until the computer resets..

Like the car's shifting habits will go back to normal IF I don't drive for about a day or two?

The whole thing with the slipping and slamming into 2nd sound just like when my 2G trans went bad.

And that drive-line is pretty much the same as your 2004 drive-line. PLUS the 2004 has had more trans problems than any other 3G TL, just the same kind as yours.

What I'm saying is your description is dead-nuts accurate for a classic Acura/Honda transmission failure. I hope you're right and it is something else. But I wouldn't bet on it.

yeah the p700 code i believe is like input shaft speed not correct or something like that I dont remember, but its not gonna be fixed by syncing the cluster. Thats typically a rebuild situation sorry to say.

man; you are in some deep ish. Good luck. First of all buying a car off of an owner, especially in "as is" condition. Basically means, give me the money and anything that happens as soon as we sign papers is your problem. I don't know where you live, but in MA, the amount that you put on paper that you paid for means nothing, they go by NADA book values here. Regardless if you got a car for $100, or $12,000.
My opinion: look for lemon law lawyers, and ask them for a consultation. better 1 or 2 hundred bucks, than thousands in fixing if you can get your money back. It will be a long process, regardless- so i guess you would have to weigh out your options.

Googled & found this

(DTC) CODE # P0700....Transmission Control System (MIL Request) Translation: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Malfunction or Failure. P0700 Information Code The Transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. If any malfunction is detected, the TCM informs the PCM by sending a signal (P0700 code). P0700 means that a code has been set in the TCM. This code is for information ONLY. If this code is present, check for transaxle codes. So basically, the P0700 code is telling you to check the TCM for a transaxle DTC. The TCM can not turn on the check engine light so it has the PCM do it. The dealer probably saw the code P0700 and went to the TCM and pulled out the code stored there telling them the Transmission Solenoid Assembly (TSA) is bad.

OP,

Take the money you saved by falsifying the bill of sale and buy a new transmission.

And hope your tax assessor doesn't read accurazine...
