Wheel bearing?

What is the book time to replace my wheel bearing? Also does a bad wheel bearing causes vibration at certain speed? Thanks, Sam

Front/Rear?
Normally a worn wheel bearing won't cause a vibration at a certain speed.

A little more info might be helpful as to when the vibration is noticed and where, steering wheel, seats.

when a wheel bearing goes bad, the typical symptom is a whining noise that gets louder with speed, and sounds a lot like the noise made by worn tires. I, too, wouldn't expect any vibrations. Also, this part isn't contained in the maintenance schedule.

Tell us more about the symptoms you're experiencing?

Thanks for replying guys! I get a bad vibration around 45mph+. Sometimes it vibrates hard. It could be felt through the steering wheel. I've balance n rotate the tires with no success. I'm getting a bad tire noise but I know it's the bearings? It's coming from the front passenger?

As Vlad says, a bad bearing sounds like a whining that increases with speed. As they get worse, it starts to sound like a grinding as well. Never experienced any vibration with a bad bearing. More likely to be worn struts, or compliance bushings, or tie rod ends and could even be a slightly seized brake caliper. Had them all at one point or another. The bad bearing started as nothing then got slightly louder over time and then became a grinding. Wheel would also be a little warmer than the rest, but this also happened with my seized brake caliper...
Good luck.

Check tires for bulges just in case, but it's probably an axle.

If the vibration only starts at 45mph, and is worse if you accelerate hard, then goes away at like 50mph (or is lessened by a lot), then it's definitely a bad axle.

If you have a whining noise, you might also have a bad bearing, but a defective bearing wouldn't cause vibration.

I was on vacation when my front wheel bearing went bad. I picked up the part myself at an auto zone. I was forced to take it to a local shop (Firestone) and they had it done in about two hours. I want to say it cost about $250 for them to do it. It killed me, but I had no other option.

Noob question, does a hub assembly come with wheel bearing? Thanks, Sam

Check your intermediate shaft bearing, it's what the passenger side axle shaft is coupled to. The bearing is about $40, but you have to pull the J pipe to get the intermediate shaft out. I have a high speed vibration and noticed some oil on the subframe on the passenger side,I look up and forward to find the bearing was wet and there is play at the intermediate shaft/axle shaft junction. I have since ordered a used shaft to the tune of $40. The bearing on the new one seems good, but I will likely replace it anyway. New shaft is $250+, so i will be into it for $80 instead of $250. Not saying this IS your problem, just something to look for.

When my front bearing went out, it caused the either the dust shield or the caliper bracket to scrape on the brake rotor, causing a horrible scraping noise whenever I turned the wheel to the right. It took a while to figure out it was my bearings, because I didn't appear to have any noise otherwise, and if I tried to jiggle the tire/wheel, it didn't budge. But when I replaced the bearings, everything was fixed.

Have you replace the bearing in the half shaft yet? Mine passenger side axle has the same play where you've mention between the joints. Also the passenger axle is really rusty where the balancer is. I'm probably going to replace the half shaft and axle too. I'll update this thread when finish.

I haven't replaced it yet, will probably do it in the spring when I change my timing belt.
