What's wrong with my rearview mirror??

So I have a 2004 Acura TL with tech package. I've never had any issues regarding the rearview mirror, but earlier today I got in the car and saw a small, dark green oval in the middle of the mirror. I tried wiping it off only to realize this was actually on the inside of the mirror, and now I believe there's some sort of problem. Also, in the image below you can see that I had the "Auto" function on. However, I had never previously had this button pressed (as long as I've owned the car) and only just pressed it to see how the mirror would react. Anybody know what's wrong?

Replace it before it leaks the anti-dimming substance and ruins your interior.

There's no Acura dealership near me - I'll take it to an auto-body shop tomorrow to get it replaced. I doubt they have a mirror replacement for this model, can they just throw any mirror on there? I've covered the console up to protect it from damage, for now.

Your rear view mirror problem, is a fairly common issue, with both 2G and 3G TL models. If, you would like to replace it, with an OEM mirror, from Acura, visit any, Acura OEM on-line, parts supplier, "ie" Delrayacuraoemparts, and, you can price, and or order, any OEM part, for your car.

go on ebay to buy a new one

or a junk yard

or an online parts store.

Your options are plentiful!

Thanks thoiboi,

I looked on Ebay, but most are in the United States and will take a couple of weeks to get here (I'm in Canada). I also looked at an online part store and contacted the closest Acura dealership, both had price tags of $250.

For just a mirror, this is pretty expensive IMO. I couldn't care less about the auto-dim feature - this may be a stupid question but can't I just get a cheap third-party mirror instead? or do I have to absolutely use the one by Acura? I really don't need it to be an OEM part and $250 is a lot (not counting the labour to have it installed).

I'll also take a look at a junkyard and maybe I'll get lucky.

I had to replace mine years back, and I thought I only paid ~$100, For OEM...

You can remove and replace yourself. Pretty sure there is a DIY for that on here.

just looked it up on acuraoemparts.com ($147)

There's a lot of junk yards in Canada with TLs. If you're not finding one, you're not looking hard enough. Where are you located?

I'm not familiar if the mirror just has the auto dim or if there is anything that runs through it, but if it's just the auto dim then I guess you could replace with an aftermarket. You will have to do something about the wiring though.

I’m in Vancouver- you were right!

just an update to anyone in the same situation - go to a junkyard for a replacement mirror. I paid $20 for a like new mirror when the Acura dealership quoted me at $250. Huge save!

I'm in your area as well, which junkyard did you go to?
