Talking What transmission fluid should I use?

I'm sure this has been answered before but the search function doesn't seem to be working for me.

2004 Acura TL 95k miles.

I had the timing belt/water pump/etc service done at about 90k miles and while it was at the acura shop they suggested replacing the tranny fluid. I said go ahead. They suggested that I change it again at my next oil change which is due right now.

I am fully capable of doing this myself. I know that you only get about 3 quarts out which is why you are suppose to do it 3x.

My question is what kind of tranny fluid should I use? I heard that the Acura tranny fluid is junk and not to use it? Is this true? Can I just use something like Amsoil synthetic or should I use something else?

I'm assuming that the acura place used the acura fluid. Can they be mixed with something different if I'm not using the acura fluid?

Thanks for any information you have !

So can you not use Amsoil synthetic ? or is it just a preference thing? I know I can get Amsoil at my local parts store, thats what I use in my grand prix.

Thanks !

I use Amsoil universal ATF- did the 3x3 at first and then 1x3 every year and change 3rd and 4th pressure switches. Smooth shifts- better when i got it back in 2005

^ I also use the new Honda ATF in my wife's Pilot (2003), it's only used Honda ATF and is at 210K miles with original AT never had a problem.

Others on this forum have used other ATF's to good success on their postings.
