Sometimes when I start my car, a weird noise that sounds like something grinding against something else for 2 seconds. It comes from around the inside center console area. I noticed it usually happens on a warm day and usually when I first start my car for the day.

I think it may be from a door or valve from the A/C system opening or closing. Anyone with any ideas on what this may be?

 

mine does the same thing, cant describe the noise but it comes from the center console

 

Are you talking about the center console between the seats or center dash?

I think it's the starter too. I had a maxima before that at first start of the day or after sitting for a few hours would make a brief grinding noise on occasion.. Had to leave it at the dealer overnight so they could duplicte and sure enough..

 

my 07 tl type s dosen't do it buy my GF's mom car does (04 TL)

 

It could be the intentional misfire it performs at startup..they do this.

 

when i start my 04 tl in the morning it does the same thing. the dealer said it was the starter starting to go bad

 

Are you sure it's not the ABS diagnostic check that's done at start up?

So it seems that its pretty common for the TL to misfire upon starting up (especially if it's starting up for the first time in the morning) and this can be due to bad engine mounts or a starter?

It's been abotu 2 weeks since I bought a used 04 TL and because of the misfires I've so far replaced all my plugs and one ignition coil due to my check engine light coming on when starting up nearly every other day.

Does everyone's check engine light turn on sometimes due to this ULEV related intentional misfire?

 

You shouldn't be getting a CEL.
