Luckily the only consistent rattle I've had in my TL comes when I've floored it entering a highway, usually towards the higher RPMs. The rattle _sounds_ like it's coming from the center dash console, near the navi... but it could be coming from the front center speaker. I don't accelerate that hard too often, so I haven't heard it too many times. But it's a very high pitched static-like rattle. Makes the hard acceleration much less fun...


Anyone else notice this? Nothing came up under the searches I did...

I've been able to diagnose this more... it's coming from the shifter (5AT) when floored in 3rd gear. I can feel the shifter vibrating in sync with the rattling sound.

Any idea what this could be?

 

I test drove 2 brand new 5ATs today and heard the exact same thing. Is this common to all of the 05 TL 5ATs?

 

Are you sure this is not motor related....as in pinging?

Does this "rattle" appear at about 2000 RPM and between 40-50 MPH?

When you mentioned the conditions that this rattle appeared, it sounds familiar to my pinging problem.

 

I described this to the service manager at my dealer and he said he had seen this before. Said typically the issue was in the one of the compartments in front of the shifter. He said if you put your hand in it while he rattle is present, you should be able to feel it in the top of the compartment and they can fix it. Didn't get into the details of the fix.
