Valve Cover Gasket - part numbers

Hi all,

My 2006 TL is getting close to 90,000 miles, thinking to get Timing belt and Water Pump replaced and new spark plugs. My search shows Aisin TB w/WP kit from RockAuto is the choice on this forum.

Not quite 105k miles and no MID, but my gas mileage is not what it used be. It used be very close to 30 mpg, but it is hovering around 25 now, need something done.

My questions are - should I get the valve covers gaskets replaced? Any suggestion on the brand? For belts and gaskets, I usually go with OEM or genuine Aucra/Honda parts, someone please help me with OEM part number(s), those Acura dealer websites are not crystal clear on description, making it difficult to navigate. Also, Does Acura/Honda have valve cover gasket set(for everything I'll need)? Please kindly provide part number for the set. Thanks for your help.

Oh, does the valves needed to be adjusted while there? EGR valve cleaning?

Looks like I also need to replace Intake Manifold Gasket, anyone has this part number as well? Thanks!

The gasket set for the valve covers is part number 12030-RCA-A01. Two of them are needed (same part number for both covers). #'s 1 and 2 below. It comes with the spark plug gaskets as well.

https://www.acuraoemparts.com/auto-p...-cover-06-scat

The intake manifold gasket is 17105-RCA-A01. The intake manifold cover gasket is 17146-RCA-A01 #'s 2 and 7 respectively.

Would check the O2 sensors as well if your gas mileage is suffering.

None of the replacement parts you suggested will change the fuel mileage, timing belt/parts, spark plugs, etc.
Why replace valve cover gaskets if they aren't leaking? Need them if you adjust the vales, but normally that's
not needed, unless one hears valve noise, unusual.
Why would the intake gasket need replacement?
O2 sensor can cause a difference in mileage, but not 5 mpg, actually believe another calculation needs to done.
If the sensor is not reading correctly/lazy, you'd have a code appear.

Bottom line, go with Aisin kit TKH002 and NGK 6994 plugs.
Posted this before, use this code 6C0DF59CB9B15B in how do you hear about us-5% discount

25 mpg is just a rough estimate, but I do see some difference in MPG. The TL is over 11 years old, TB/WP and plugs about due. Newer Iridium plugs should get me better fuel efficiency, maybe not quite 5 mpg. I believe I'm hearing some valve noise but not sure. But when I'm doing the other things, it makes sense to replace valve covers while there.
Thanks for the replies and 5% discount code, I assume it's for RockAuto right?

My Autel 802 isn't reading any DTC code, pending or current, I wasn't planning to replace any O2 sensors. BTW, how many O2 sensors this TL has? My ML320 has 4 identical O2 sensors.

It has 4 sensors, 2 upstream and two downstream, I think most people just replace the upstream ones. If you do change them they can be found the cheapest on Amazon, use the Densos.

My other car is an 99 ML320 with 213k miles on the clock. So far, I had replaced only 1 upstream Bosch O2 sensor when I had P0155 code at around 135k, the other 3 are still originals. I want to believe Denso sensors are just as good or better than Bosch ones.

There is a lot of debate about using Bosch products on Honda/Acura vehicles, some people have had issues.

New plugs won't change fuel mileage. Only if there is a dead miss, which you don't have.
Also, no reason to change valve cover gaskets because it has no bearing on timing belt/plug replacement and you won't be in there.

Does Denso make the OEM sensors? Then, Denso sensors should be the best for out TLs.

Exactly the main reason way I asked in this thread. I'm no expert by any means, but valve cover gasket at 90k miles doesn't make much sense. I'm leaning NOT doing the gaskets, but will replace the plugs with NGK 6994 (#IZFR6K11) laser iridium, after all it's 90,000 miles and 11+ years.. Laser Iridium plugs in my ML320 are great!

Old thread. But better then creating more mess. You ened up replacing the IM gaskets?

But do the intake manifold gaskets tend to go out on these cars? I have a friend replacing the valve cover gaskets on my 08 TL-S. He said he could change the intake manifold gaskets too Would it be a good idea to replace those while he is in there?. Car has 100k miles. He said they are probably fine. But I like to replace all gaskets when something is apart. Anything else to change?

If you're doing VC gaskets, might as well do spark plugs and those gaskets as well. Have you done your Timing belt yet?

I ended up replacing timing belt, tensioner and water pump but no VC gaskets or intake gasket. NGK plugs were replaced shortly after but no O2 sensor.

I have no leak of any kind, doesn't make sense to replace any gasket. My noise was coming from worn idler, replacing it took care of the noise. Currently getting around 29-30 mpg on 99% highway driving, no complain here.

You can reuse the intake manifold gasket mating to the lower runners and the top cover gasket. But the chance of the top cover gasket leaking is high if it's been on there for a while. The sealing material will tear when you take it off and you'll get a vacuum leak when you reuse it. The lower gasket can be reused, it has 3 layers of steel. But why not just change it, only $20 some dollars with the intake plenum set.

Yup had all that done at 80k, plus had the valves adjusted. Spark plugs were replaced then too. But he reused the valve cover gaskets.

Yeah I wouldn't worry about the 02 sensor. They will throw a code if they start going bad or your car will run real poorly. Upstream that is. Wish I got that good of mileage I get around 24-26mpg on my automatic TL-S during warmer months. Which isn't too bad seeing what they are rated at.

https://www.acuraoemparts.com/auto-p...-manifold-scat What all do I need. I am a bit confused. Does the TL-S have two intake manifold gaskets for each side and then a top cover gasket? I just see

(1) 117105-RCJ-A01Gasket, In Manifold

GASKET, IN. MANIFOLD

6-R70-A01Gasket, In Manifold Cover (Upper)

2)
17146-R70-A01Gasket, In Manifold Cover (Upper)

GASKET, IN. MANIFOLD COVER (UPPER)

There is a top cover gasket and a gasket that mates to the lower intake runners. 2 total. You can just get the whole intake plenum set from FelPro for $29.99 from Rockauto. When you take the intake manifold off, you should take the throttle body off so you don't disturb the coolant lines. That means you need a throttle body gasket also. I have used the FelPro intake plenum gaskets without any issue.

Good to know I will order that set. I only hear good things about Fel-Pro.

Ugh. Might of got the wrong valve cover gaskets for my TLS. Valve Cover Gasket - part numbers-fhhe7js.jpg Crazy how the "1" at the end makes a difference. Looks like the spark plug tube seals might be different

Won't let me edit my post. I called up Fel-Pro and there is a difference between the R1 and the R. I need the set with just the R, different valve cover gaskets.

You just need to go to rockauto.com to reference all the part numbers. Where did you get yours? A local auto parts store? Sometimes the guys in auto zone or advanced auto are stoned spaced-out dudes that don't know anything.

Yeah I should have done that. I got it from eBay. I used part numbers from a thread I found on acurazine. I didn't think the "1" made a difference. It was my fault. I bought the gasket set months ago and just now checked the numbers. But I agree about the parts store guys haha
