Valve adjustment tips??

Im about to adjust my valves on my 07 tl-s. i havent done this before but have done a lot of extensive car work in the past so im gonna go for it since my car now has 100k. Ive seen the DIY, but was wondering if there are any tips that people may have from past experiences with doing this? Also, i see after adjusting the 6th cylinder in TDC, there are no steps following that. This means the engine is just left in 6th cylinder TDC and everything can be reassembled in that position and the engine fired up and thats it? thanks guys

Really not a need to start a separate thread. A search would have revealed a current, ongoing discussion on this subject.

But to answer your question: Yes. And you don't need to do them in order (#1-#6), just make sure whatever number is at TDC is the one you adjust the valves for.

My advice is pay someone to do it, it never comes out right on your first valve job. It takes a "feel" for the adjustment that only comes with experience from doing it a bunch of times.

Do you really have to do a valve adjustment at 105K if the engine runs quiet?? I believe the service manual states for the 105K mile service to do the timing belt, water pump, and adjust valves if they are noisy....

the engine does NOT run quiet at all lol my lifters are ridiculously noisey, especially on cold starts. I started it but had to postpone my project due to rain, but i have a QUESTION: Im having trouble cranking the engine manually, by the power steering pulley. spark plugs ALL out. seems as though there is not enough tension on the belt to crank the engine that way. How did you all crank the engine via the power steering pulley?
Also, would a lifter replacement be necessary due to the noise? im considering it while its all apart.

That is a good question. I have wondered the same thing. My accord v6 has 120000 miles and I don't have any valve slap. It seems to be pretty quiet. Anyone have a take on that?

i wouldnt recommend cranking via the power steering pulley, seems like it would put a lot of strain on it.

take the passenger side wheel off and crank it via the crank pulley instead. You'll get more leverage that way anyway.

Cranking it by the power steering pulley struck me as really weird, too. Don't do that.

As ^ said - use the crank pulley. That's what it's for.

Yeah definately turn the engine with the crank pulley. You could also try taking the drive belt off so that your only turning the crank, water pump, and cam sprocket, not all the accessories (alternator, AC, PS pump etc). Might be easier.
