UR Pulley - CEL at WOT 1st / 2nd gear
Hey Guys,
I recently installed an Injen CAI, OE Thermal spacers (throttle body and intake manifold), and the UR under drive pulley.
During extended WOT in 1st / 2nd gear the check engine light will blink. If I stop accelerating right then and shut the car off the CEL resets. If I continue to drive it goes from blinking to solid and won't reset until I pull the fuse.
I did not have this issue after installing the CAI or spacers; but once I put in the pulley it started happening. I reset the ECU after installs and drove around normally for 30-50 miles before pushing it. The engine temp looks fine (from the gauge) and I just had an oil change... So I can't really figure it out.
I had suspicions of my cat going (some mild sulfur smell under WOT; dealer told me it was normal on the TL's)...So I'm wondering if it's an O2 sensor or something. But I figure I'd ask here first.
The engine sounds excellent (silent) and is extremely smooth during full acceleration. There's no stuttering or odd sounds when pushing it etc.
04AT:
Normal Drive: WOT through 1st and 2nd, by 6,000 RPM's in 2nd the CEL starts blinking.
Sports Shift: Couldn't get it to go off at first. Took it up to 65 mph in 2nd from 15 without any CEL incident, shifted to 4th, took my foot off the gas and after cruising for 3-4 seconds the light began to blink. After 10 seconds of blinking it went solid.
So.. It doesn't always occur during WOT conditions, but it's definitely a product of foot ->> floor.
100 miles of no WOT (maybe 80% open getting on the highway etc) with no incidence... And then BAM went on after doing it twice. Also, if I put the car in third or fourth gear and floor it the light never comes on... I guess I'll have to check the error code.
Possible Issues:
O2 sensor's going a little crazy
Fuel is running too rich
Engine is overheating (temp doesn't go up on the guage)
Transmission? Seems to go on after it shifts to 3rd...but I can't tell. (tranny is super smooth during accel though)
I'll try to get a video soon, and hopefully the error code. Just figured I'd check to see if anyone had an idea of what could be going wrong.
Thanks,
-Rob M.

I have the same issue, as soon as i put my pulley in, every time i floored it, the check engine light would blink, and eventually just stayed on. It put out 3 codes, i have to go check which ones they were again but i think 2 were because of bad gas and one was something about the pulley sensor.

Hmm, I'm wondering if I have a gasket leak somewhere... Maybe the slightly quicker revving from the new pulley is causing a bigger pressure difference... Might be why it seems to trigger when I switch gears at high RPM's.

Same as the first service bulletin link... Weird...
I use the under drive pulley...
The codes seem to be related to misfires... Could be false I suppose... but then wouldn't I have seen it prior to the pulley install?

Here's two quick video's to show you what I mean. Ignore the accel, just reset the ECU 4 miles before, it was 90% humidity, and had all the windows down... Not exactly ideal conditions
By the way... How do all these people drive and take quality video's? Maybe they don't use cell-phone camera's? Or maybe they're not driving on Rt. 2 in Mass... lol.
Video 1 - CEL Blink, then off
Video 2 - CEL blink then solid

I have seen this happen on one TL and it only happened at WOT in first or second gear IIRC. I have to try to remember but I think it happened after the install of a CAI, TB spacer, J-pipe and pulley. So I assumed it was related to traction, but it may be engine related. I don't know what the code was as it only blinked a couple times; I had thought it may have been the fact that the gas cap wasn't fully tightened but it doesn't seem to affect driveability. I would definitely try that link posted above first.

Hey again,
Thanks for the responses. I tried tightening the gas cap; no dice.
I'm going to try some more testing in sports shift.
Also, drove around a lot since it ticked on (in the 2nd video) without going WOT and it hasn't shut off. I think it will only clear with the fuse pull. Anyone know why this would it would blink and shut off on some occasions and stick on in others? Also, this happened to me once before (prior to doing any mods) when I was zipping around near my house in 2nd gear. Admittedly, I was driving the car pretty hard for 10 minutes or so before the light started blinking. (of course I freaked out, shut the car off, and it went away). Maybe the new modifications are causing the car to drive harder (I certainly hope so ) Which is replicating this earlier CEL condition. I don't suppose there's any way to fix it without going to the dealership (if it is that first poster's suggestion)? I'd rather not stroll up and say... Hey, ever since I ripped parts of the car off and put new one's on this light's been going crazy... Think you can fix it?

PS: Anyone know how you retrieve the error codes?

Welp figured it out.
Seems like one of the clips wasn't tight enough on the coolant line running into the throttle body. I tightened it back up and blamo... no more CEL.
Just figured I'd follow this up real quick... Apparently any TINY TINY leak in the coolant system can cause the CEL to come on. Mine apparently only happened during the vibrations of WOT in 1st or 2nd.
