unusual leather seat tear / rip
Ok so i forgot a dvd-rom in my car on the backseat cushion for a few days when it was hot. When I took the drive out you can tell there was melting going on because you can see the hole pattern on the drive. Then I decided to clean it a bit because the drive left a weird residue on it, thats when it got worse.
Right now the leather parts that are near that rip, is all crusty and has the consistancy of thin cardboard. I have did searches and have seen different options I can go about this. Any real solution is financially out of reach atm. The dealer said its $600 for the bottom cushion. But I have a guy that can re-upholster the seat for a few hundred bucks. He said the leather is pretty cheap im pretty much paying for the labor.
Anyways so for right now I just want to stop the bleeding and was thinking about just patching it up. I bought the AS SEEN ON TV Leather & Vinyl Repair Kit. I am going to give that a whirl tomarrow afternoon. I was wondering if anyone think there is any reason why I shouldnt try this?
here is that kit

Well thats pretty bad, im sure it will need to be replaced if you want it to look unnoticeable, not too sure if a leather medic may be able to fix it. If you go to the dealer the leather cover itself is an arm and a leg plus labor. Have you tried seeing if the dealer would one time goodwill a new seat cover? Ive had my drivers bottom seat cover replaced under goodwill warranty, because i spilled rubbing alcohol on the leather and it ate away the surface layer of leather. Ive since begun to notice how fragile the leather in the tl actually is! Well goodluck in fixing your leather!

Well I bought the car used at an Infinity dealership trade-in. I do have extended warantee on the vehicle but it doesn't cover leather. My car is well out of factory warentee. I just wanted a quit fix that will stop it from getting any worse. Replacing or real deal repair can come later on.

from what you say, it appears that the mettalics in the cd burn the leather with the heat of the sun. The seat cover is 605 dollars, here is teh link to it:

Ok so this auto interior shop said they'd replace that leather panel for $250 ball park. $100 for the leather o_O and $150 for the labor. Is that a good deal or should I shop around some more?

Sounds like a good deal, but cant really tell where the spot is or how big the piece that needs replace is. Just make sure the leather is the same or very close to the leather that they are replacing!

That damaged panel is on the back seat, passenger side. If you look at the panels on the back seat where your butt is, its the panels with the small holes as you can see. its the bigger panel in the back. The damaged area is about 3x3inc approximately. The panel itself is approximately 16-18in x 12 i think.
