Question for all the TL buffs here. I was riding with my friend in his 07 TL yesterday and we driving along about 40 and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and the car just started to sound really rough. At all speeds all times it just sounds like is running really rough. The only way I know how to explain the noise is a misfiring cylinder. Does anyone have any idea what that would be?

Oh should have specified. The Check Engine light was flashing. Not solid.

Flashing CEL means misfires frequent/rapid enough to damage the converters. When the misfires stop, the CEL should remain on:

I would not run the engine any more and get it towed to the dealer.

Don't want to alarm your friend, but read this thread where someone else with an 07 TL had a flashing CEL:

Got a call this morning from my friend. Apparently the flatbed truck driver backed into the trunk lid with the bed of the truck then once he finally had it connected proceeded to drag the front bumper along the ground as he got it onto the flatbed. Quality work right there.

Apparently a spark plug fell out? He said it would be a few hundred to fix ($125 to just diagnose). Stealership ftl.

Fell out or blew out? Did it damage the coil? Anything damaged? Which plug?

He said "fell out" but then again my friend isn't terribly good with cars. I wasn't there for it so unfortunately i'm fuzzy on the details. Ill try to get some later today.

1. I always supervise a tow from front door to shop floor.
2. Spark plugs don't fall out. They blow out.

Did you recently have a tuneup / change the plugs? If not, how many miles are on the TL? What kind of gas & octane do you use?

Sounds like he will be taking it from the dealer to the body shop! That sucks but the tow company owes for the damages.

Ouch, I'm a AAA driver and hate to say it but I think that tow driver would be looking for another job. Sounds like apparently loaded it from the rear which is not good because cars aren't designed to go 55+ mph in reverse. Unlatched sunroofs and vent windows don't like it. Learned that one from experience when I first started, even though the TLs sunroof is electric. Even vent visors on the doors don't like it also. Anyways, good luck with the original issue and the body work at someone else's expense.
