udpate on squeaky noise on cold start ups

well after they replaced the drive belt and tensioner pulley, the noise came back or never went away...

car is back in and they said they found the noise to be the crankshaft pulley which they replaced under warranty...

i will let you guys know how it works out...for now, i am still driving the 09 tl which is starting to grow on me....

i think a silver one wouldnt look too bad with the trim piece up front...

That's good to know. Mine had a squeek a while back that seems to have gone away for now. My belt has traces of metal on it and it looks like it's coming from the crank pulley. I wonder if there's a problem with metal hardness.

Did you happen to see your pulley before they replaced it?

i had looked at it a few times when i was squirting lube on the belt, i had noticed it look like it had some rust or rust colored dirt in the tracks of the pulley....the new one looks new obviously, but i dont really know if that contributed to the noise....all i know is now everything seems to be cool and no noise...

i did however make the mistake of letting the dealer wash my car...big mistake, it looks like they swirled the whole car up....

Thanks for the update. Mine hasn't made the noise since Thanksgiving night (last time it was parked outdoors for any length of time in real cold), but these threads are useful in the event it comes back. Mine's out of warranty, unfortunately.

it will be an easy fix....if the noise comes back, start with the belt, its the cheapest part to start with...i dont know what a crank pulley cost, but it cant be that bad, but doing it yourself will save you a few hundred in labor cost, and it looks to be easy enough....

Mine made the noise again last night after I was parked outside in 20°F temperatures, so I will be taking it in sometime around midday today.

Just came back from the dealer. They diagnosed it as the power steering pump and replaced it. Noise is gone for now, but the real test will be tomorrow morning in the cold. I might even park it outside to make it colder since the garage gets some residual heat from the rest of the house......on second thought, that would require scraping the windows, so I won't do that.

Hey,

Not sure of my problem is related to this topic, maybe you can assist me.

Today, while almost home about 40 min drive (27 degree outside), took a turn a little sharper then usual. While turning into my development, i hear this noise coming from my car. So i roll down the window and it seem like ever time i turn the steering wheel it made the noise. So i parked in my garage and went inside to put something down. Went back out and started up the car again and turn the steering wheel and it made the noise.

Then i unplugged my phone (recharging) and turn off the radio and it seem to have gone away. I took it 2 laps around the development and dont hear the noise anymore. The noise came from under the hood and only when i turn the steering wheel..that time.

I already had the power steering recall work done..a few months ago.

Anyone have any idea...what going on?

Can you describe the sound a bit more? Did it sound like a clicking noise? Any sort of vibration through the wheel? The first thing I thought of from your description was "failing CV joint," but it's hard to tell.

Either way, it doesn't sound like the same problem we were having with our TLs, but the more you can describe, the better.

Follow-up on mine....no noise at all today. Hopefully the problem is gone, although in fairness I should also note it was a good deal warmer today than yesterday. Saturday night might be my next chance to give it a real test, as we have a dinner reservation at 20:00 out in the middle of nowhere (meaning outdoor parking) and it's supposed to be good and cold outside.

Anyway my battery died today..strange. They has to be a relation there.
