TSB Question

I have a 04 6MT TL and I am experiencing the squealing problem as described in TSB 04-019. I went to the dealer with this and they said that since I did not get any brake maintenance done through Acura, I wouldn't qualify for this as I didn't properly maintain the brakes. Is this true or is it that this dealership simply doesn't want to provide the warranty work? I am currently at 45k miles.
Thanks for your help!
Mike

What??? Are they saying you didn't perform some sort of required maintenance? Or are they saying you did have maintenance done some place else? I'm about to get on my high horse here....

Yes, they are saying that since I didn't do the required "B" maintenances with Acura, my brakes are not going to be covered because I didn't properly maintain them.

I thought that they were saying you had a brake job somewhere else so they wouldn't cover it. That I could understand. But just because you didn't do the B service with them ? That's complete BS. What the hell would they do to "service" the brakes at B anyway ? They would inspect the pads and if worn do a brake job. That's it.

If you still have service life left on your pads then I don't see where they come off with their attitude. If your pads are beyond serviceable limits then I could understand that they would recommend a brake job over the TSB.

They said they checked my front brakes and they are getting worn. Not down to the wear bars but worn. The TSB states that the rotors be resurfaced and the pads be replaced, so I am not sure why he said this. I might call Acura tomorrow then and see what's going on.

Humor me a bit. When I was in my teens I worked in a burger joint. The "guaranty" was that if you didn't like the way your burger was cooked, we would make another one for you free of charge. Occasionally someone would come back to the counter with one bite left and say it wasn't done right. You know what we would do ? Give them another burger. That's what.

So, your brakes are making noise but there is only "one bite" left in the pads. The TSB, in your case, amounts to a free front brake job. As long as your VIN is in the TSB's range and you can demonstrate the squealing I'd say they owe you the "new burger". I guess I'm not sure why the dealer would care if Acura is providing the compensation under the TSB.

BTW, the TSB states to replace rotors beyond serviceable limits. So if you end up getting new rotors and pads that will be a really good deal. Also, at 45K you might consider a "plan B deal" with Acura where you get the work done at a very reduced price. Something is better than nothing.
