Trunk won't open?!? Help please
ok so i know this gets ask a lot but here it does 1 more time xD
so i recently bought a 2004 acura tl and there was a trunk issue already which i know about and thought it would be an easy fix...
so i pushed the trunk release button under the driver's side dashboard and it doesn't pop the trunk up, i can hear a noise every time i push it but no trunk is popped.
checked the glove for the switch and its flip to on and i have tryed flipping it the other way also but nothing happens, still no trunk release...
using the alarm remote i push the trunk release button but still nothing , it does make the same noise that the button under the dash board makes when pushed...
i pulled down the back center seat and pulled the truck release tab to upon the trunk which is the only way to get it to open, when the trunk is open all the way i tryed pushing the trunk release button on the remote and the one under the dashboard, at time it works and at times it just stops working... this is when the trunk is open though.
if i tryed closing the truck 1/3 of the way down the thing just stops working period... and stops working again.
so what i wanted to know is if there is any way to check the latch to see if thats the problem and going out or is it just the electronic or wiring of the car thats messed up? Any advice would be great thanks..

If you hear a noise it's probably the actuator in the trunk lid that's failed.
Since you can still pull the release tab through the ski hole you are in good shape. The guy in this thread wasn't so lucky. Read it anyway since it has some troubleshooting ideas and a diagram of the part I think might be failed/failing in your car. You can ignore the part about pulling out the rear seats since the guy in the thread's release tab didn't work (ouch!)

i';; lubercate it with some wd-40... it could be a broken/ non working latch that needs replacing is what i am thinking... but cant be fore sure... when the trunk is like 1/3 close the latch just stops responding to the fob remote completely, even if you open the trunk back up... no idea whats going on...

ok so by taking a closer look it doesnt seem to be the trunk latch that is broken at all... it works perfectly fine if the trunk is fully open... BUT if the trunk is even slightly close or slightly moving down to the close position for the trunk it disables the trunk latch...
does anyone have any idea why? could be done to prevent theft? if so, does anyone recognize this technique and how to disable it so that the trunk can be used even is its closed?...

You should check the wiring under the trunk trim around the hinge.
Welcome to AZ.
which one should i be looking at? the whole wire harness under the trunk trim? and what should i be looking for? burns or loose wires? not sure what i should be looking for to tell me where the problem is at... thanks for any help you can give me
after a whole 2 days of digging and trying to figure out what was wrong i ended up tearing the trunk apart then took the harness wire all off... after 30 mins of removing electrical tape i found my problem -.- , it seems as if the original owner had "cut" 6 of the wire related to the trunk release then tape everything back, this issue was a pain in my butt but it saved my hundreds of dollars from taking it to the dealer which would charge is over price then did what i did to fix it any ways lol...

WD40 is not a lubricant, it is a moisture displacement....use a lithium grease instead
Sorry i'm late to help your issue.
Was going to tell you to open up the harness starting from the actuator to the trunk hinge/left rear seat piller area as this is a common problem with the wires breaking.
Looks like previous owner found it and fix it half ass and didnt do a good job so the wires got pull apart again.
Also you could of just checked if the ground wire was good right at the actuator...

Hello,
I'm glad the original poster found his wiring problem. For others who might have a problem with their trunk release...
My 2005 TL's trunk release became intermittent. When I pressed either the dash button or the key fob button, the release made no sound. I suspected an electrical problem.
After ensuring that valet switch in the glove compartment was ON, the owner of an electrical shop advised me to lubricate the release mechanism before doing any electrical troubleshooting. I didn’t think that would work, because there was no indication that there was any power to the release; but I tried lubrication anyway. I filled all the cavities of the release with white lithium grease, and worked the mechanism back and forth many times.
To my surprise, that solved the problem. Now, the trunk opens every time.
Good luck!
