Trunk Mystery

Hello all! I have a 05 Acura TL. I've witnessed an interesting problem that I have yet to find the answer too. When my trunk is closed, I am unable to open it with the button or the key fob. When I press it, I can hear a noise from the button under the steering wheel, but nothing happens. When I open the trunk through the emergency latch and have my lid open at 90 degrees, then my latch releases when pressing both buttons. I'm not sure what is happening. The latch only releases when at 90 degrees open. Has anyone has this problem? I had an aftermarket sub installed about a year ago, but the trunk issue just happened. Please let me know any suggestions as this is annoying me.

hey there,

did you check to see if someone switched the trunk to "valet" mode?
the switch is in the glovebox.

I had the same problem. Something is gumming up the release. I sprayed wd-40 and kept using the key fob to activate the lock to lubricate the locking mechanism. I haven't had a problem since. This was done about the beginning of spring. I took off the plastic cover and sprayed into the lock. Figured if I had to replace it, might as well try something as basic as this.

the motor could have a broken solder joint in it from the heavy vibrations of the bass. You should take it apart and try seeing if there is constant power to that motor/lock or if the fault is with the button.

Probably a problem in the harness where you have an open circuit when it's closed. Someone else just had the same thing happen recently but I can't find the thread now.
