Trunk Latch Problem

So this is an odd, minor problem. Recently the plastic piece that covers the trunk latch fell off. The trunk was still closing fine without it so I left the piece in the trunk and I was like whatever I will deal with it later. So later comes, I look at it, it pops right back on. I'm like ok, that was easy....I go to close the trunk and it doesnt close. I have to slam the trunk to get it to close. Opened the trunk back up and looked at the piece. It looks fine, it can only go on one way. So I took it back off, which was a lot harder than getting it on I have no idea how it came off by itself, and the trunk works great again. Anyone else have problems with this stupid plastic piece?

eh Im probably the only one with this problem, anyways here is a pic of the plastic latch cover I am talking about:

With it on I have to slam my trunk closed, when I remove it, my trunk closes smoothly and easily.

My trunk pops open when I hit a big bump, and often when i slam it closed, it will pop back open. I'll try without the plastic t see if it's any different.

Been awhile since I posted this. Anyways I had the dealer look at it when I was in for a service some time back and they were no help. They just put the plastic cover back on and said it works fine. Even though it didn't work fine. I took it back off again and have left it off ever since.

The little spring recently came off in my car, and the trunk is not closing as easy as it did before. It seems as though the only way I can put it back on is to remove the plastic cover but I am having a hard time getting it off. Do I need to remove the gray covering from inside the trunk before I can remove this plastic piece from the trunk latch?
