Trunk issue not discussed yet

First let me say I've read all the trunk problem threads and none speak to the problem I have. I have a 2008 Acura TL. Randomly it stopped working. BUT the actuator works from my remote and the car button when my trunk lid is greater than 50% open. When it's less than 50% neither the remote nor the car button work. I've tested it multiple times, several different days and it's consistently the same problem.

No broken fuses; the glove box button is turned "on", remote batteries are ok and the actuator seems to work but only when the lid is open. Also, I ordered a NEW actuator and tried it - got the same exact issue as with the old one.

Any have any ideas what else could be wrong?

Probably a pinch in the wiring harness where the position of the deck lid pinches or unpinches it.

OK so since that's a hard thing to assess with the lid closed should I reposition the harness and strap it to a different position with electrical tape as a test run? Or is there a different method?

I myself am trying to figure out my trunk issue. I would say you have to start opening the wire harness carefully and inspect the individual wires that go the the actuator harness. I am going to do the same when I have some time.

Had the same issue with my license plate light, when trunk is closed, they didnt turn on, if I open at least half way, they both light up right away. Just bad wiring

Agree with focusing on the trunk wiring.

Look at the thread at: [url]https://acurazine.com/forums/problems-fixes-114/2006-tl-navi-trunk-lid-wont-open-758591/.
I think there are also photos in that thread of the area where the trunk wiring likely went bad.

Welcome to AZ.

Remove whatever trunk lining it in way and follow the wiring from the lock actuator switch back toward the passenger compartment. As I mentioned above there is likely a pinch (or possibly a stretch) happening when the trunk is 50% closed based on your observations.
