Thumbs up Trouble Starting & Weird Engine Noise (Video's Included)

Problem 1

My battery (Interstate Megatron Plus) is only like 8 months old so it should be good to go without a doubt. It's a good battery with plenty of CCA, etc. Now, when it's cold it seems to have a little more trouble starting, but I don't think it should have THIS much trouble. It ALWAYS starts on the first try, but when it's been sitting overnight or when I'm at work for 6-7 hours it takes about 4-5 seconds for it to crank over. I remember when I first got the battery in it started up very quickly for a week or so, then started to act like it was struggling. If this is normal then okay & I expect a small delay, but for it to sound like it's trying and trying...then turn over, I don't think that's normal.

Problem 2

Weird, almost knocking noise from the left side near the belts. I tried to look in there and see if anything was loose and knocking on metal, etc..but don't really know what to look for. Just wasn't sure if anyone has had this before or if this is common. Obviously it's hard to diagnose over a video, but thought it was worth a try! lol

You may have either a bad battery (its not the first time I have seen a bad battery that is new) or your alternator may be on its way out. Both can be tested, and with your added electronics its not out of the question.

The noise may be one of two things in my opinion. Either an exhaust leak, or a bearing. One of the bearings in a tensioner, ps pump, alt., or ac compressor could be on their way out. Look for soot around the exhaust manifold flange where it bolts to the head. If it isnt an exhaust leak, you can use a long screwdriver or other solid metallic rod. Touch it to various parts of the motor and put your ear on the other end. Using this method, you can narrow the sound down to a certain area or part.

Did you ever figure this out? I think the noise is unrelated to the problem. I just noticed that my car makes the same noise....so I wouldnt be too worried.

im gettin a similar noise, and also when im accelerating around 2000-3000 rpm (cant hear it higher than that because of my exhaust) with all the windows up and music off. i can hear the engine making a weird sound like that too, but it only happens when i hit the throttle once i let off it goes away. i checked for exhaust leaks but couldnt find anything.
