Transmission or timing belt?

Hi, I have a 2005 Acura TL with 130k miles. I have not had the timing belt replaced. I was at a red light today and when I went to hit the gas, the car never started moving. I heard it rev and heard a repeating flopping sound. I was not able to put the car in park, only neutral and had to be pushed to the side of the road. After I had it towed, the driver made a comment that the car was able to come right off the pulley after he engaged the emergency brake, so he thought it could be the transmission? Any thoughts? It was running perfect till now. Thanks in advance. I won't know anything till Monday and am concerned

Sounds like a broken axle since the car rolls freely. Timing belt issues will cause the engine to stop running.

could be a broken axle or a toast transmission. Not understanding what you mean by taken off the pulley...

Engine was still running. The pulley that brought the car down on the flatbed....when he let up the tension, the car pulled down and wasn't stationary.

Hope it's not the transmission. Ugh!

Attached is the piece that came off the car after it died. Today i went back to where it was towed. I was able to turn the car on fine but when I put it in drive that that's when the load noises started and I had to put the car in neutral to shut off. Any opinions? Thanks

looks like the axle broke at where the dynamic damper is. Top one is OEM, bottom one is aftermarket without the damper. You'll need a new axle! That's about it!

Broken axle I just replaced on that rusted completely through under that rubber bushing seems to be a failure point
