change the fluid if you have not done so yet. While it is extremely rare, there have been reports of the 07-08 TLS trans failing

Can you describe your issues you are having? I have an 07 and it seems like the up shift and down shift is quite harsh. I bought all the shift solenoids and Redline Racing Fluid. I am going to change those to see if that helps. Next is the engine mounts, Im pretty sure most, if not all, are worn out which would cause the same issues.

you say "rare", i say it's just to early
the AT is almost unchanged from 04-06
with one really bad difference - you can't get to the filter on the 07' and up

i'm curious to see how widespread the filter problems will become in a couple more years and if Honda is going to do anything about it

when my dealer showed the deteriorating filter to Acura rep the guy didn't show much interest, but they do take failed ATs back to pick them apart, so we'll see

Im not sure I would describe mine a problem but it does seem odd. Picture diving into a corner hard and letting off the throttle, the car downshifts to 3rd(5AT) and then as I jump back on the accelerator, the shift from 3rd to 4th is super rough and almost instantaneous. This might have nothing to do with your issue but I wanted to list it anyway in case.

Can you describe what you are experiencing a little more?

surprised nobody else asked. Have you replaced your 3rd and 4th gear transmission pressure switches yet? Mine was shifting hard and when I replaced them, it was gone immediately.

07-08 TL-S use a RL derived transmission, not the same as the base 3.2L

and?

i bought the 07 filter out of curiosity (i have an 09 Ody that has the same AT as TLs) and it uses the same exact stuff to glue the paper element to the metal as the older one, meaning it can fall apart and plug the line just as easily

the difference is, it's the supply line to the cooler (that is now in the main radiator) not the return line like on 04', and you cannot replace it without taking the AT off the car and opening it

my point is, if the filter fails the way it did on my 05' TL, it won't matter what other Honda trany the 07' AT was derived from, it'll go down like the rest of them

it's mind boggling that Honda doesn't consider ATF filter to be it a maintenance item, that thing gets filthy in 10-15K

may be they put it in there just to trap the large pieces of aluminum that get broken off
but in that case shouldn't there be another "real" filter like in all other AT's? and should the "permanent" one be made out of something that withstands the high temperatures and prolonged use a little better that paper and glue?

oh well ...

if you are that worried about it, take it apart and remove the filter and install an inline one. Problem solved. Last time I checked the RL transmissions were not dropping like flies

Its been a well known fact that Honda builds great cars with the exception of the transmissions, Auto and MT.

well, when you check again, dig up some numbers on RL vs TL sales...
because if there're 100 TLs to 1 RL, that hardly makes RL AT 100 times more reliable

i have put 2 aftermarket coolers and an inline magnefine on my Ody and epoxied some alluminum heatsinks to the bottom of the AT case (God bless Arctic Silver!), i think i can fly her to the Sun now

she doesn't see much milage, but i probably will remove the stock filter, like you said, once she's around 60K

my TL got a cooler, an inline magnefine and lost the stock filter the day i got her back from the dealer with the replacement AT

i give Mr. Honda a lot of credit for being bold and not willing to pay US AT patent fees on Hondas, but look who's paying for his "tough guy" act now

that being said, the 07-08 AT is pretty different from the 04-06 AT. not saying one is better or anything, just stating the difference.

that was YeuEmMaiMai's point, then you went on to say they are all the same transmissions that will fail.

i have my fingers crossed for them being somehow better at least as tight as anyone else with an 07' and up TL, as my 09' Ody has the same AT

Well thats the issue i never really feel that there was something wrong with my transmission but last thurs out of no where while driving the engine light and vsa came on for a bit then turn back off. And obviously it give you the code of the issue it had to then i took it to the dealer monday morning and said the transmission was having issues and they have to replaced the solenoid then they will run the car to make sure its fine is not might need to replace the transmission. So i gotta wait and see what they say when there done with the car.

I have no experience here, but did a little research after reading blogs about possible transmission failures. I have an 04, and so far, no problems...knock on wood.

Another option other than the dealer is possibly a transmission from H&A Transmissions. Definitely cheaper than dealer, but most likely more expensive than local transmission specialist. They claim to be Honda/Acura specialists, that supply transmissions to dealerships. Whether that is true or not, I do not know. If you do use them, post back here how it went, cost, experience, etc, because I would definitely like to know that information, should I need a new transmission myself. Good luck!

Could you describe the problem you were having that prompted replacing the pressure switches? thanks!

People on here replace the sensors as a preventative procedure. I replaced mine this weekend and didnt notice a huge difference but hey i know they are new. I did notice however the shifting was a but smoother using Redline Racing ATF
