Transmission Problem Help!

Not sure if anyone had a similar problem but hoping someone can help.

Have a 2006 TL AT...was driving in SS mode in second gear. Shifted at about 4 RPM to 3rd. Check engine lightcame on and VSA. Was stuck in 3rd gear could not change. Put it in regular mode and car was stuck in the same gear at low Rpm and barely moving.

Shut the car down for aboyt 5 min...started it up and everything was back to mormal except for the check engine light. SS and regular mode was working fine.

Anyone have any ideas what happened? Could it me a sigh the tranny is about to go? it has less than 20k miles on the car.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

2006 TL hard shift from 2nd to 3rd

Hi,
I am new to this site. Not even sure how to post a question. I have a 2006 TL automatic that I just bought with 78k miles.

I noticed that when it shifts form 2nd to 3rd the rpm drops significantly and then it shifts. There is no clunking or noises it just feels like you hit the brakes during the shift. It is less noticeable if you are on the gas hard but it is still there.

Is this normal for a TL?

I'm also new to this site and a recent owner of a '05 TL. Car is at 94k miles and I noticed when the car is fully warmed up (hot even) under hard acceleration from standing I get very harsh shifts and rpm flaring between shifts, usuall 2-3 & 3-4. If I watch the tach and ease it, then can avoid the harsh engagement. Again, not sure if this is "normal" for the TL's or is this a solenoid / sensor issue? All comments appreciated.

Flick0069, check your trans fluid and if needed add some. If the trans fluid is fine, get it in to the dealer. You should not be having those kinds of problems ever.

to the toher two users. trust meif your RPMS drop your trans is shifting. I've driven a lot of cars in my lifetime, and these transmissions are among the sloppiest shifting transmissions I ever delt with. Drive the car hard and feel the shutter in the trans as it shifts to the next gear. I've had that in my 04 since new. No codes or slippage during normal operation though, just crappy shifts.

^^^ I agree with Dave_W. From what you are describing, this sounds very normal. The TL has a long pause between shifting gears. So long of a pause that, yes, it almost feels like you lightly tap the brake sometimes.
