I need to get my emissions done but they said they cant do it until my transmission light turns off. Its the orange symbol to the right of the headlight symbol on the dash. I'm guessing its the transmission light.

How do I turn it off? Something easy that I can do myself?

 

get your transmission checked out, it could be an electrical problem with one of the switches. If the light is on, it's kinda common sense to have it looked at...

I'm guessing you mean you have CEL (Check Engine Light).. Get a picture of a loved one / favorite saint and jam it in the gauge cluster to hide the light..

but in an seriousness.. go to Autozone or your favorite parts store and have them read the CEL code for you so you can find out what the malfunction is.. My guess is O2 sensor..

If you need an immediate test on emissions.. you could clear the CEL by unplugging the battery. If there is a valid problem it'll come back.. Some emissions readers may still read a non ready state after a CEL has been cleared since the car needs to do an appropriate drive cycle to get into the ready status.
