Transmission Failing

Transmission Failing
Hi Guys & Ladies, I'm on a lookout for an advise
yesterday my 04 Acura TL just gave out in the middle of the road
it stopped driving and I assumed it was transmission since the engine is working with no error ( no check engine lights. etc ), but it was not moving, just revving.
long story short I parked it and came that night to pick it up with towing, got in the car and shifted to reveres and it reversed then I tried drive and it drove
Is there a change that tranny is still alive ?

Could be the clutch packs are toast, but if the car isn't going into any gear, then that's probably not the case. Did you notice any slipping prior to the failure? Was the D light flashing while the car was in gear? Have to tried the "manual" mode?
It could be the Gear Position Sensor has gone bad. Check this thread out: https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...switch-892223/
You could try doing a 3x3 drain and refill of the transmission, but I am not sure if this will make any difference.
A lot of people will say pressure switches, but this seems like a different issue if the car isn't going into any gear. Usually symptoms of bad pressure switches will cause slipping between 2nd and 3rd and 3rd and 4th.
Check the axles, make sure they are not broken. However, if the car could drive later, chances are it's not axles.
I would start with the gear position sensor. The fact that the car drove later on makes me think something may be off with a sensor, specifically the gear position sensor. Keep an eye on where the light for the gear is on the dash. If it is dropping out a Drive, then definitely read through the thread I linked. Could save you thousands. However, this is just a guess based on what I have read and the little info I have from what you described. Try to see if the symptoms in the thread I linked match up as well.
Good luck!

Three Wheelin'
2100 + tax =(
Breezy is correct.
I had the same problem. First start of the morning ( after car sat for a few hours ) my trans would run fine. Once warmed up the problems surfaced. No Check Engine light what so ever.
Clutch packs were toast as was the torque converter. I paid 2100 but I threw in a bunch of other parts I accumulated throughout the years ( had them replace all engine mounts, sway bar bushings etc.
Here is one question for you. When you start the car do you hear a whining noise from around the transmission area?

Part it out? Seriously? Why don't you put a tranny in it and keep driving it. I mean, unless the rest of the car is beat, you're not going to find anything anywhere near as nice to drive for the $2,100 it'll cost for a new tranny.

Car may need more than a trans to get back to optimal performance. I did the same thing. My trans went at 200k and parted the whole thing. Was at about $4500 where I wanted it to be. I was ready for something else so I saved the $4500 to put towards a new car and parted it. Payed off in the end!

I know its a nice car. But Im just tired of it.
really tired. Ive put so much time and money into it, I just dont think its worth any more plus like the value of the car is low also its lived its years since 04.

FWIW, before I embarked on my journey to find my new car I read a lot of posts here and on other Acura and Honda sites which had threads about the TL, and one of the most compelling reasons, for me at least, for limiting my search to a 3G TL was the number of former owners expressing how much the missed their TLs once they'd parted ways. I'm not saying you're going to fall into that camp, but hey, the 3G really does seem to be a pretty special car.

No kidding. I rebuilt the trans on my 98 Accord V-6 when it died at 145k miles and it now has over 300k miles on it and is on it's 2nd teen driver.
