Tranny fluid question (color)
Settle my mind guys, just had the trans rebuilt about 3000 miles ago, everything is working fine. Have a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. I checked the fluid yesterday an noticed the color was a more grey color than red. I did several dw-1 three quart changes over the years to know the color. So, alarm went off in my head as I asked for Honda fluid to be put back in and he assured me that's what he would do. So I called him an asked about this and the different color. Was told he did put dw-1 with an addictive that Honda recommends, reason for color being off. So am I getting bulls$&#ed or could this be the case? Was thinking about just ordering me 9 quarts and changing myself for peace of mind, but then was concerned about voiding my warranty if I did. What would you do? heck if it makes it 12,000 should be good for another 18,000 then I can do the 30,000 nine quart.
What is this Honda recommend additive? We all want to know but probably bs.
If I was you I would do 1x3 every 10k instead of waiting to do it at 30k. That way you are constantly refreshing the fluid. Change the external trans external filter at 30k if it has one.

But seriously grey fluid is a sign of metal contamination usually from aluminum. I'm not sure what is aluminum in the trans.
ATF fluid is dyed red to distinguish it from other fluids and will change color over time. Even a very dark color doesn't indicate internal damage as long as no other symptoms are noticed, and just a simple fluid change would be in order.
