Exclamation TL TYPE S Not picking up like its supposed to

Hey what’s up guy I recently brought a 2007 TL TYPE S and I don’t think it’s picking up like its suposed to. When you floor it from a complete stop it picks up slow. It should at least spin tires a little bit but mine doesn’t at all. My car has about 132K miles, I don’t know if it just has a lot of miles or something is wrong. If anyone else has this problem please let me know ASAP. Thanks guys.

So your tires wont spin when you floor it and you assume something is wrong with the car? o.O
How does it accelerate? Does it bog? Idle? Ticking? Sluggish?

No the tires should spin when I floor it. The car is really quick when it’s already rolling but the car just doesn’t pick up right. It idles fine and everything. I was thinking it could be the accelerator pedal position sensor.

My car has 212k and is really quick.
Try doing some cleaning to parts or maintenance.

It’s auto. The car when rolling is pretty quick. It’s just that when you floor it from a stop the pick up is really slow. You guys think it could be the accelerator pedal position sensor ?

How slow are we talking here? For example, on my Type-S (manual) the symptoms of my dying throttle positioning sensor would be that from a stop the car would feel like I was starting in 3rd gear until I go up to speed, then the throttle acted normal. Turning the car off and then on again would sometimes cause it to accelerate properly until it started acting up again.

But, by accelerating slow, I am talking about unsafe to be on a 40mph road because there is no way I could accelerate faster than say 5 mph increments over 10 seconds. It pretty much was in limp mode.

No, the tires should NOT spin when you floor it; your car has a traction control system which prevents wheel spin when you "floor it".

No the pick up isn’t too bad. However the car deff has less pick up then it should. I’ve seen videos on YouTube 0-60 and it the car accelerates way faster then mine does. Even when I turn the traction control off, it’s still the samething. I just don’t know what’s wrong. I have a leak in my flex pipe which I should be getting fixed today or tmm when I have time but I don’t think that’s it. Just got a new air filter for my intake. Recently did a oil change. But the car is still like that. I’m going to try to post a video later so you guys can see what I’m talking about.

So far at least, I don't see any evidence your car has anything wrong with it. FWIW, you cannot judge anything regarding the performance of your car based upon a YouTube video.

the weird thing is; over the years, multiple people have complained about the same thing...however, cannot give evidence or show the internet that something is wrong...
it's frustrating for every one, as the user thinks car is slow and not performing correctly and the reader is left to think the user is lying.

based off what he has said in this thread...I too dont think anything is wrong with his car, as comparing it to youtube isnt scientific...

Buy a new APP sensor if you think its bad. No way we can say yes or no with a description that sounds like nothing is wrong. Good luck getting your tires to spin.

Probably nothing wrong with your car.
Under hard accelerating your Automatic TLS will not chirp/spin tires unless you have some bold tires. TLS is just not as
fast as people are lead to believe. Its just slightly quicker then a base TL.
Only way is to use the manual mode with the paddle shifters and floor the accelerator WOT on gear 1.

it's also hefty at 3400lbs.
plus the engine characteristics! Honda's are known for vtec. vtec happens at 5k and beyond. at 6000 RPM is where we make the most torque...
so, if at a stop...you'll need to rev to high heavens to make ANY sort of power.
however, that comes at a price. abusing the car to make any power off the line is a no-no! (I admit, when i first bought the car, i'd launch hard...but with that abuse, came broken parts...)

Do a 0-60 pull on the highway on ramp and tell us the approximate time.

If the car accelerates just fine when rolling, then doubtful the APP sensor is to blame. Generally the APP sensor will throw a code if really bad, or it will create a dead spot or a funky response behavior somewhere in the travel of the pedal. If it works fine at WoT when at speed, it should work fine at WoT from a stop. Mine didn't throw a code, but had a funky spot just off of idle which made taking off smoothly nearly impossible.
