TL hard shift from 2-3
TL hard shift from 2-3
hi everyone! let me start off by saying that this forum is awesome, with tons of great information. i have spent many hours reading about the transmission issues, but couldn't find the exact problem i've been having... so here it goes:
i have an '05 TL automatic with 56,000 miles on it (bought it about 6 months ago from a friend who has had it since new). i have been noticing an increasingly frequent hard/rough shift from 2-3. if you really step on the gas and keep on it, if shifts very smooth... but under light load, or if you let off the gas slightly right before it shifts, it sort slams ("slams" might be a little overkill) into 3rd gear. there is no slipping, shuddering, or any of the other issues i've read about. trans fluid was changed at the acura dealer at 48,000 miles (with acura fluid).
i plan to change the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches this weekend along with the tranny filter (for preventative maintenance). does anyone have any other suggestions? thanks in advance!

mine does the same thing. Been doing it for years. haha I changed the 4 solenoids (2 down on front of tranny and 2 under the water cooling housing) and it still shifts hard.
So, my next step is to try and remove any "varnish" with a flush.. and shown in the video. I already added it.. And its been about 100 miles.. andd still no difference.
I am about to do a 3x3 swap to remove some of the sea foam "conditioner/cleaner"
Then if that doesn't fix it, I think the next step would be to check the line level pressure in A.
I already checked for DTC's before I started, and I did not see anything. I may check 1 more time to verify.
If the Line Level is ok.. then I may try to replace the dual linear solenoids on top of the tranny.. drivers side.
I think anytime the dual linear solenoids are replaced, you may need to adjust the line pressure.. as there is a 5-sided Allen key for the adjustment one the solenoid. (if you can find a set of those.. good luck) sonnax sells a single one.

by the way, I heard a mechanic talking on youtube, not sure if it is true or not, but it sounds true.. he said that when a pressure solenoid goes bad, the system defaults to high pressure.. which would give a harsh shift.. But this was on a GM.. so i am not sure if that is true with Honda. But it might be.
