most likely surface rust right now unless its been that way for a long time. Rust will eat away at your car if not taken care of. I would recommend that you sand it down to bare metal then prime, and paint.

Not entirely true. Here is exact wording from the warranty.

Rust that does not perforate, but is
caused by a defect in material or
workmanship, is covered under the
New Vehicle Limited Warranty. You
will not be charged for any parts,
material, or labor under this
warranty. The decision to repair,
rather than replace, any rusted body
panel will be made by Acura.

I have the same problem but on my roof. Acura replaced the windshield before I bought the car and it looks like they damaged the paint when they did so. What do you guys mean by perforate? I need to know cause if it could be covered I've gotta get it in before the end of the year. Thanks

read that carefully....if you drive your car 25K miles a year your New Vehicle Limited warranty would be up in 2 years as it typically is 4 years or 50K miles whichever comes first.

straight from acura's website

All models enjoy a 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty.

Acura powertrains are covered by a 6-year/70,000-mile16limited warranty.

Outer body rust-through is covered by a 5-year/unlimited-mile limited warranty.

Seat belts are covered by a 15-year/150,000-mile limited warranty.

Acura Genuine accessories installed by the dealer at the time of vehicle purchase enjoy a 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty.

Acura typically will not cover paint chips as those are considered normal wear and tear on a car.....now if the paint started bubbling, cracking, or peeling, then they would step in.

Sand to bare metal and touch up with some Acura Touch Up Paint ($7 from the dealer). Oh, and do yourself a favor and get some very fine tip brushes from AC Moore or any other crafts/hobby shop. The brushes that the touch up paint bottles have are way too big/soft to be used for detail work like chip touch up.

Met with my Service Manager today. Since the windshield was replaced on my car by Acura the rust on my room was most likely caused by them but I have to meet with the Factory Service Rep who happens to be on Vacation till January 4th. Hopefully they fix the problem for me.

Sweet Jesus how many people actually drive 25k miles a year? Do an autotrader search and look at the avg miles on 06's. Over here in the Chicago area the avg is 30-40k on 06's. Also if your car is certified, which mine is, the rust warranty I mentioned is extended to 5yr/62k.

you stated inaccurate information, I corrected it and provided an example as to why it was inaccurate.

your panties: get them out of a bunch.

and the rust through warranty is 5 years unlimited milage.

OP will most likely be covered since Acura caused the damages when they repaired the windshield but, they could say not us and then he will spend about $400 to get the roof redone.....

as for people that put insane milage on their cars, I was one of them as I used to put 35+ on my car every year when I was younger.......

No I didn't. Here is what you put first:

"acura rust warranty is for rust preforation of the body panel..... 5 yr unlimited milage"

How the heck is that accurate? I provided an exact quote from the warranty book for NON perforation side of the warranty. If you ask me the fact that you just said 5 year unlimited miles is really misleading because not all rust issues are for unlimited miles. Plus my quote said it applies to the New Vehicle Limited Warranty and we all know what that is.

Quangpham, I would bring it to the dealship you bought the car and see if they will perform the required work free of charge on "good faith". While you may or may not be covered by warranty, no dealer wants to see a customer return within 6 months complaining of rust in a car they sold. Was your car certified? What model year is your car?

If you see a small amount of rust on the car, you have to get rid of it, or it will spread.

Get a Dremel with the smallest sanding (cone) bit possible. The bit should be about the size of an "A" in 14 size font. Use the Dremel to sand away just the rust to the bare metal and clean it very well with a dry microfiber towel. Use a size 0 very fine brush to use touch-up paint to put on the bare metal only, not the surrounding paint. Make sure there is no metal showing. That will fill it!

Agree, and to add to it, to make sure that you go a tiny bit further into the paint when sanding to make sure you get any that may have spread under the paint.
