Tints scratching?

Hey guys, Ive had an issue with my tints streaking pretty bad up front. The guy at carsmart tells me its do to dust building up in the door? I found a site tintprotector.com but not sure if anyone has tried this and knows if it works?

ahh...the tint scratch. essentially it's dust, dirt and whatever else that is getting trapped that is scratching the tint. you need replace the tint if you dont' like the existing scratches and then install moleskin to prevent the scratches. a good tint place can install moleskin OR you can get this kit OR you can DIY the moleskin install.

I recently had my tints done a d also had the issue of them scratching. I went back to the shop and he re tinted the 4 roll down windows and added felt to the price that runs against the tiny. Problem solved no more scratches.

again, its debris trapped between the window and window "blade" that causes scratches.

there might be some dirt stuck in the felt/moleskin.

Yes, order the kit from tintprotector. I did this about six months ago. I had the windows retinted (under warranty). After they were retinted and dried, I immediately installed the moleskin and have no scratches at all. I installed the moleskin without removing the door panels. Send me IM if I can be of assistance.

Ill tell you my odd situation

I have an 04 that I just recently got tinted. I told the place I wanted moleskin done, since the TL's windows are kind of tight. Upon doing the first door, they broke the door release calbe (the little green plastic part on one end of the cable). They said it was due to the age that its fragile, and that they will replace that one, but they cant keep breaking every single door. I told them I was concerned about scrtaching, and the guy told me if it ever scrtaches, to bring it back, and he'll redo it. So, as is, I have moleskin on only my driver side window, and no moleskin on the other 3. Now, I get no streaking on any window BUT the one with moleskin installed. Im not sure if the moleskin will eventually lead to scratching, but at the moment, it seems as if its the only window that shows signs of it.

If you want the moleskin done right, do it yourself. You can install it without having to remove the door panels.

^^this.

my tint installer, didn't remove the door panel. he lifted the panel and pulled the rubber piece out the door panel stayed on the door. he cleaned it, and hand cut the moleskin to the rubber trim piece. he slid the piece back in and then put the door panel back on. i watched him do this. he said considering the age of my car (it was 6 at the time) these were the cleanest ones he's seen, like brand new clean.

i only have moleskin on the front windows. i dont' open my windows and no one rides in my TL. no issues.

if a tint installer is breaking stuff...he doesn't know what he's doing.

I did the moleskin myself as well after tint shop quoted $25/door . I actually removed the panels, it was very easy. I am not a mechanic or anything of the like. I used the moleskin from tint protector and no scratches at all, 3 weeks since tint job. I did not cut the moleskin, and read not to do that or you could have issues with adhesive getting on your windows. I have not had any adhesive on mine.
