Timing belt tensioner problem(?)

I have an 08 TL that all of a sudden started getting significant performance loss, a major lag between shifting into drive, and a new ticking noise from the right side of the engine as of a week ago, I took my serpentine belt off to test and the noise was still occurring. Would this be the timing belt tensioner failing of anyone knows?

I also have an 08 to with roughly 140000 miles and is doing this whining sound only when accelerating. I read tons on this forum so I initially thought power steering pump…rebuilt it and the whining sound was still there. So now I’m thing timing belt tensioner so if you figure it out I would love to know please and thanks

If you are the original owner of the 2008 TL with 140K miles and it (timing belt) has never been changed, then it's time to change the timing belt & related components.

I am the second owner and bought it at 99,000 miles, lucky them they sold it right before it was time lol. So i should do the entire timing belt kit with water pump? I saw this at part # TCKWP329 @ smyth auto parts. Would that work and be all that I need? Thanks a million for responding

This is one of the many threads in this site on the subject. I would get it done sooner than later.

Try shopping that part # on rockauto.com to get a price comparison on the Aisin TKH002 kit below. The Aisin kit will work on the 3.2 or 3.5 engine:

I saw that brand on symth but they wanted 300 but I’ll check rock auto. Is it just because that is a better brand?

rockauto is a reputable auto parts supply company; don't forget to google for 5% off coupon there. AISIN is a great brand for the water pump kit

When I had the timing belt replaced on my 08 TL-S years ago by a Honda tech doing side work he said AISIN was the OEM Honda Manufacturer. He went on to say that when you buy the AISIN kit from Rockauto you are getting the same belt, just without the Honda name and logo on it.
its been a few years since, so not sure if this is still the case.

It is still the case, from what I’ve read and heard. My mechanic said this exact thing. He also asked me what kit I bought, before he would say he could do it. I sent him a picture with the Aisin Kit from rockauto, and he’s doing that now. I’m at 107,xxx and it’s 21yrs old, no HID number came up, but I’m changing now.
