Timing belt assembly preference?

I need to replace my timing belt and water pump soon and initially I was just going to have the shop use whatever replacement parts they would recommend. Then I did some research and I think it might be better if I order the parts myself and just have them install them. I've found some good deals on complete sets from both Aisin and Dayco. The Dayco set seems to come with more parts and is a bit less than the Aisin. Anyone have a preference?

Personally I prefer the Aisin kit - as they make OE parts for several manufacturers. You'd also need to order a replacement serpentine belt.

I think reading some others on here preferred the Gates kit.

Well it's narrowed to Dayco, Aisin, or the Gates is an option too. I've done a bit more reading and I'll likely go with the Aisin and a Dayco serpentine belt. $200 for the kit and belt shipped isn't too bad.

Ebay has decent prices on complete kits that have pulleys and everything. It was a while ago so i dont remember exactly how much I paid but they were all OEM parts. might as well also buy valve cover gasket kit whiich is another 60 bucks and have those parts changed while getting a valve adjustment. Take care of these cars properly and they really do last a long time. I have 185,000 miles on my TL and its runs smooth and strong.
