The time has come

OK so my rear main seal is leaking and since it needs to be replaced I figured I would go ahead and replace the clutch and flywheel along with slave and master cylinder as well. The main question I have is this. When I bought the car I purchased a 5 yr 100,000 mile extended warranty with it. This warranty would cover the labor and parts to replace the rear main seal. It calls for almost to the T the same amount and time as it would to replace the clutch. So Acura Stealership wants $3400 parts and labor If everything lines up with my warranty company which to this point they have paid up and have not given me the run around on any services the warranty covers the cost would go down to $1500 and some change. This is with all OEM parts of course. Now my other option and this is the one Im leaning towards because I want a beefier clutch and flywheel setup was to buy the rear main seal already have clutch and slave and then purchase the XLR8 Street clutch and Flywheel combo for $1150 and pay my friend who owns a shop $850 in labor to come out $2000. I have not asked Acura if i could provide a clutch and flywheel. I would assume they would not allow customer parts. But im just trying to get some feedback to help me in my decision. Acura of course comes with some sort of warranty. Stuck between a rock and a hard place

Which one lol. Do I go with OEM? Or do I go aftermarket. My build when finished should be at or just above 300 WHP. Hence the reason im looking at aftermarket

The car got all that mileage out of the original clutch, so why spend $1000's more than necessary? The original clutch kit (LUK) and flywheel (LUK) are available from rockauto for a fraction of the cost of the stealership or XLR8. Just make sure you replace the flywheel along with the clutch and you'll be just fine.

My 2¢

The thing is if my warranty covers parts and labor for the rear main seal it would also cover the labor to do the clutch and flywheel. If they would let me provide my own parts then it would be a slam dunk

i would pay 500 more out of pocket (seemed to be 1500 dealer after warranty reimbursement vs 2000 independent) to get the xlr8 clutch package in. my oem is still going strong at 116k miles, but i absolutely hate the self adjusting mechanism of the oem setup. when my time comes, i'm going to the xlr8 daily setup. i've heard some great things about it and for you to only pay 500 on it instead of 1150 plus labor, that's the route i would go without a doubt

have you tried calling and asking them haha? you can get an answer asap and that woudl make your decision that much clearer. i don't know any dealers that allow me to bring my own parts, and even independent shops are about 50/50 on who lets you

Rear main seal leaks on the 6MT have a tendency to stop as suddenly as they started. Have you checked the PCV valve or tried replacing it?

Update So warranty is covering the labor for all but 1 hr which they decided would be added to be on the safe side there going to allow me to provide the clutch flywheel slave cylinder with the check valve deleted already and im getting that replaced along with master cylinder and SS clutch line parts and labor out the door is $564 for everything installed along with the cost of clutch and flywheel im going Action Clutch stage 1 and Aasco Flywheel. If Bisimoto uses Action Clutch on all of his builds including the Porsche and 1000 hp Odyssey then its good enough for me. They have higher ratings than south bend who make the XLR8 clutches. Not bagging them whatsoever but I have been doing research for as long as I have owned Veronica and that almost 3 yrs plus it comes out to $1060.50 which is $90 cheaper than XLR8 Grand total $1,624.50 not too shabby New Clutch and Flywheel New Slave New master with SS clutch line
