"Tighten Gas Cap" light! 3 visits to the dealer already.

Mine has been coming on a lot more frequently now, I'm guessing because of the warmer weather... however now it will sometimes go out a few minutes later or almost always the next time I turn the engine on, instead of being on the couple of days like before...weird

I have the same issue! It only happens during the summer months and fall when there's a big temp change. I also called Acura of Canada but the guy I was talking to wanted me to make an appointment first with the dealership and than he'll workout something out! I'll probably just replace the evap canister myself next year! Hope everything works out well at the dealership for.
#124
There is also a sensor with the evap canister. Does anyone know if the sensor should be replaced as well? The parts guy at my delership said they usually replace the sensor when they replace the canister.
#125
99% of the time it is neither of those.
If you do not have check engine light along with "Tighten Fuel Cap" message then it is most likely a Purge Contol Valve (PCV) that need to be replaced.

I hope so Acura-OC! It's time to replace the PVC anyways. I usually replace the PVC the same time I when I replace the spark plugs. It will be a cheaper fix than replacing the canister.

It's about $160 CAD
Thanks again!

So after I bought my type S i would get the tighten fuel cap message, went back to the dealer mcgrath downtown and they said they updated the software. later that week after i filled up a full tank i got the same message. I didn't really care about that much, but its been off and on for last 2 months. I went to Acura Westmont today and they were like you need to get new valves or something about valve replacement which would be $400. I bought my car CPO and they were like its a maintenance thing so it wont be under warranty. Called up downtown and the guy said he'll call me back. Anyways, I hope I don't have to replace my valves.

It's the EVAP canister purge valve. This is a warranty item/goodwill consideration. 400 seems very steep for 0.2 hours and a $90 part.

yeah one of the things is the purge valve for sure, which the dealer should do. But the dealer near my house was like you gotta go to the dealer where i bought which is a little bit further so that sucks but I think they should do it. But another thing was they were saying my cylinders were misfiring? I don't know wtf they were saying but they said it wasn't timed perfectly and thats why the check engine light was on. The thing is my check engine light was only on when my tighten fuel cap message popped up and then it would turn on and off everything i filled gas or just randomly. I think the dealer is BSing me about the misfiring cylinders just to get $400. I have the paper that says what they thought the problem was - something to do with misfiring and valves? I'll let you guys know next time i get in my car lol

Just bought an 07 Type-S. Same Tighten Cap light. Great reading these threads. Looks like we'll be replacing the Purge Control Valve (PCV). Looks like www.dchautomotiveparts.com has it cheapest so far that I can find. $84.73 + shipping. Hubby gonna be busy this weekend. I'm confident this will fix the problem, then someone mentioned if it's still there it should go away after about 50 engine starts. Will fix and let you know if this was the cure.

I OBDII scanner indicates it is a small evaporator leak. Try cleaning up the fill neck with Scotch-brite or steel wool. Then apply a slight coating of grease to the fill neck. Clean up the gasket/seal in the cap and apply grease there too.
This has worked several times on different vehicles.

So I pull into the dealer lot, visiting for another issue that they said would fix, and right b before shutting the car off, error message flashes to tighten gas cap. I go and check the gas cap and it appears to be tight so looks looks like I need this repair.
It is very ironic on the timing of this event, and good thing the car still under extended warranty.

I just had the EVAP canister purge valve replaced, and yes, covered under the extended warranty (AcuraCare).

I can verify, anyone who has this problem just replace PCV. Did it this weekend. Kind of a pain to get to that bottom screw but took all of 45 mins. I did notice that the defective old part was made in Mexico and the replacement part was made in Japan... coincidence? doubt it.

The warnings have annoyed me to death over the last couple of years, so had the Rvap canister purge valve replaced per TSB 09-056. Hoping this will end the constant pinging and pop up messages I get when the tank level approaches halfway.

We just bought our 08 TL with 78k miles. Wondered why it has, what looks like, a brand new gas cap installed. We've gotten the gas cap message a couple of times now once it stayed on until I shut the car off and once went out on its own. Ordered OEM part off ebay for $102 shipped.

Replaced Gas Cap, was good for about 2 moths. Messages returned and replaced PCV, and Canister Purge Valve. I'm now $600 in repairs and the message is back after 2 months. Any ideas what it might be?

Purchased all OEM/Honda on eBay:
replaced gas cap $19
replaced purge valve $9
replaced PCV valve $8
Check rubber hoses that connect to purge for cracks
erase the error message manually on your Acura through the LCD

^ Purge valve $9??? WHERE>>?>??? Your video is for a 4th gen TL. This is the 3rd gen section.
Went through this entire thread and wrote down valuable information. I was told that it won't hurt anything, so I have ignored the gas cap light.... I have gotten it on and off for the past 3 years. 08 TL-S Auto 116k miles. I noticed lately it has been coming on a lot more often and the little envelope pops up on the NAV screen.
I am at the last straw now, something really weird happened could be a different issue...
Was cruising in 5th gear on the interstate going about 65 mph, Had to speed up a little bit. Car started to vibrate and the RPMS fluctuated a bit like the car wasn't getting fuel/air then the gas cap light popped on and got the message on the NAV screen! Continued to cruise on the interstate and the light turned off for the gas cap. I think its time to change the Purge Control Solenoid aka EVAP Canister Purge Valve.
Question is...since this is a TSB can I save money and get an Acura dealership to replace it for me for free without a stupid "diagnosis fee" Since this is a well known issue? I am fine spending the money on the part but if I can save $90 or so I will try.
Looks like the EVAP Purge Valve is $125 now! Gotta love inflation.

Anyone have luck with aftermarket ones>? Or is that a no no with this part? https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...440495&jsn=794

Haven't had a CEL since replacement.

That "OEM" one was not a Honda part. No way at $25. But that's awesome that it's working for you I might just go the cheaper out I haven't seen them that cheap. The official Honda part is over $125. I've seen as high as $170 and I'm sure a dealership would charge more than that even just for the part

It looks like the cheapest options during the Coronavirus pandemic are now more expensive aftermarket parts like your Rock Auto part and Dorman. I'd go that route rather than OEM for such a non-critical part.

Was it an EVAP purge valve, or a PCV valve?

On my way to work with slightly accelerating to get on to the interstate and the check engine light started flashing and the car was hesitating to accelerate I probably should just spend the extra money and get a quality Honda part
