the gas cap must be on 3 clicks to be tight
Its actually on at the 1st but they want you to be certain its secure
The system is a closed loop,,, and cannot have any air leaks anywhere.
Failure to tighten the cap will show a warning- drive it a few days or do as suggested in links above
Question:
Do less than 1/2 the members of acurazine ever read the owner manual- all this type driving info and warnings is found in the operating instructions

Everyone--Have you changed the brake fluid in your TL yet?
2005 and earlier and due NOW and then once a year forever

Reading manual - sometimes/guilty
Changing brake fluid - '06, not due yet

Honestly the TL is the first car I've heard of (admittedly I'm not a "car guy") that requires brake fluid changes. Can anyone educate me on why it's so important?

Here to learn!

TIA,
Steve

I wasn't aware that it needs a change but I've done mine in my '06 twice. Once becuause I severely overheated the brakes and upgraded fluid. Second time was to upgrade to DOT 5.1 which is an awesome fluid for an ABS equipped car. There's no doubt the car stops a little harder as the thinner fluid seems to allow the ABS to get it a little closer to the "edge" of traction.

Back to the gas cap, they do go bad. If it persists for a while I would look at the cap.

It's very simple, the cap is crap. I don't do 3 clicks, I do 2...I've seen plenty of people over crank that cap, like they are winding a freaken clock...it's not necessary, be gentle.

Also, usually when the warning light goes on, it takes a day of driving for it go away, thus the ingenious design of making you paranoid

It's funny, I leave the engine running if the girlfriend is inside unless it's really empty and my warning light has never come on.

Its a wrong vac pressure sense that causes the cap light to come on- usually get a few blocks before it occurs- more often due to `forgot to put cap on at all`, but can just be loose or bad rubber oring
Ethanol in gasoline is destroying our cars!! from the inside!

The mechanism inside the cap is simply a spring release- you cannot overtighten the cap- that click is the `Im tight` release, and the rest are just the spring moving back
Do it 10 times or 3 doesnt matter at all.

On Brake fluid- it really should be changed every year starting a 1, but acura wants you to feel better about the whole thing and says year 3
Google= Hygroscopic
brake fluid absorbs atmospheric moisture, which compresses and gets shoved thru the fluid to the caliper--- and turns into micro sized rust particles.
Also weakens pedal- causes spongly feel

I dont know about the brand new gen3 cars- check your owner manual
On gen2 we can use DOT3 -stock, or DOT4- the upgraded interchangeable standard with 3, with better hi temp properties.

The DOT5 is only for certain cars AND motorcycles that require it-

Its NOT for cars that dont list it as approved fluid!!- the operating systems being vastly different is `my guess` why, BUT I know, if it does say use dot 3 or 4- thats what you use.
May not see problems now with 5 now- but inside the ABS could be bad things happening

If gen3 BOOK says 5 is approved- someone please tell me so I will shut up!
No thats not an open offer to tell me to shut up!

EVERY car requires brake fluid changes- whether on time or miles- but its in the maitenance schedule to be done

If you live back east where there is lots of snow or you live by the ocean- do it NOW

DOT 5 is silicone based and can't be used in our cars. DOT 5.1 is 100% compatible and has a slightly higher boiling point than DOT5. It's also a bit thinner which would be good for the people in colder climates and it seems to make the ABS a little sharper.

You need to change the EVAP canister purge valve. P/N 36162-rdv-j01. the stealer will try to charge you $150. but you can easily get it for $100 if you are cool about it.

ya i think if we replace all the made in mexico parts under the hood this vehicle will not have too many problems lol.

I've seen 2 failure parts, APP sensor and EVAP Canister Purge valve both made in mexico, both fail but the replacement parts for both of them are Made in Japan. hmmm
