Tighten Gas Cap message

I just got this message a few days ago. I tightened the cap three times, and even fill up once, did all the things the owners manual says - still there. It came on when my take was low (3 gal left since 14 went in). Any suggestions before I go through the trouble of taking it in (as the manual suggests)? No noticeable change in fuel economy either.

It may take several cycles of filling up your gas tank for it to clear the message. If you have a scan tool that's able to clear codes, then you can get the message cleared faster.

Update: It cleared yesterday by itself. However it took about 150 miles of driving after the warning and a fillup. Much longer than what the manual says. Thanks for the replies -

That makes me feel better, because I just received the tighten gas cap message today and it was starting to drive me nuts - which is why I joined this site to try and find a fix! Let's hope it fixes itself in the next few days.

The message cleared itself yesterday! I started the car after work and it was gone. I was so relieved - it was driving me nuts!
