Tighten fuel cap indicator acting up
Tighten fuel cap indicator acting up
Hey everyone. I searched and saw a precious post in the TSX section but it seems like no one got the indicator to actually stop. For the past 2 days my indicator been going off and on after tightening the cap multiple times and it was not loose at all. I also live in the NE where the weather has been changing from 40-70's. I have a 07 TL-S which I doubt if it matters, but have anyone else experience this? If so how can this be resolved?
Its the evap purge canister. Go to the dealership and tell them about it, they should know what your problem is (if not they are playing stupid) its a very common problem. I have had mine fixed at the dealership. The procedure they go through before they replace the evap purge canister is to update your ECU (doesn't work) and then if that doesnt work they will go ahead and replace the canister.
Here is a screenshot of the service bulletin, if you want to print it out look at the 3G Garage.

It's the purge valve that is going bad. If you have warranty then it'll be covered. My car would display it few times a day so I replaced the purge valve and problem got fixed. Light hasn't been on ever since I replaced the part. I wasn't lucky enough to buy the car with warranty so I paid outta pocket.

The system has nothing to do with the light coming on. If you still have warranty take it to the dealer and if not order it online. When I changed out the part I noticed the factory part is made in Mexico and the replacement is made in Japan both with denso name but slightly dif part num
Yea I know 8 months later but Philly what is the avap test? you changed that part out and then take it somewhere??? Part looks super easy to replace techs made it sound like it was a pain in the ass thats why I love forums lol....just trying to get more info on what I should do after I replace part...
Thanks man

Nothing, replace the part and the system will hold pressure and not set off the alarm. A few thoughts Acura should be brought to task and replaced this because by when this valve leaks the car is actually polluting. The car is actually not in emission compliance and that should set off a trouble code. Of course, no moral judgement here, most people would rather pollute than set off a TC. If your car has any warranty get it replaced, tell Acura you are seeing the check gas cap warning all the time. The dealer cannot validate your complaint without driving the car extensively because the trouble is intermittent.
I don't believe you need to reset the ECU.
1. Acura TSB does not state this in procedure.
2. No trouble codes, including pending are set
3 ECU does not retain this information, that is why the dealer cannot validate the issue other than the customer's word.

If you have Navi, it pulls up in the system as P1071 or something like that.
I haven't reset mine yet, it needs to go through 50 cycles with no issue or something like that.
If you have this problem with a CEL it is something else also. This fix is for no CEL and only code in MID.

No this is not the problem. I had my valve changed yesterday and the light came back on this morning. I'm sick and tired of it. I have tightened fuel cap over 1000 times. I only have 4000 miles on car. And I tighten. It to 3 clicks. This is ridiculous and dealer told me to bring it back today. I bet all the valves are bad.
