Temperature heater control valve begins to open

not sure if my HCV cable needs to be lubed up or not.
I noticed last night ( for past couple days noticing heat isnt hot enough ) setting the temperature to 77 on climate control opens the HCV. is that so? normally at 72 i would begin to feel some heat.

- both radiator hoses are hot
- hoses going in/out of heater core are hot.
- i replaced this HCV about a month ago....maybe it went bad ?

From my understanding we have two in our vehicles......
also,...i read with the 2nd gen TL's you can press Auto and OFF simulantously and get some sort of HVAC diagnostics going.

I'll try it this afternoon and see what "errors" appear.
