Sudden loss of power

About every 300 miles I experience a dramatic drop in power. My RPM drops to about 1000 and i get the following lights on the dash: !with triangle around, VSA, and Check Engine. After I stop and restart, only the check engine stays on (for a few more times) and everything works fine. The computer scan came up with /2-P2138. This was not at the dealer. The shop said it was the Throttle Position Sensor but said replacing it may not solve the problem and it could also be a wiring issue. I am worried that this might become a money pit. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the APP - accelerator pedal position sensor.
Seems to be a relatively common problem.
Sensor is under the hood, looks like a cruise control actuator, has a throttle cable that goes back thru the firewall to the gas pedal. Replace that sensor and report back if it has stopped. The diagnostic charge at the dealer may be more than the sensor, and their labor to replace is outrageous, so replacing without any real diagnostic seems to be the best bet. Even as crazy as that sounds...
