Get up 7 min earlier everyday and sit in your car until it's at a good operating temp

unfortunately sounds from an outer CV joint wont disappear if you were to sit parked to warm up. You need wheels to be moving to warm up the joint.

in any case, the issue was resolved due to obvious tears in the cv joint boot. Joints should not be binding and clicking at all.

2 different problems

After reading this thread I realized that there is 2 different issues that you guys are dealing with. First is the click noise that supposedly comes from the axle or the CV Joint. The second in which I am currently having is the whining sound that arises for the car being to cold. It sorta of sounds like its coming from on of the belts. Somebody please help!!

Is yours 6 speed or automatic? I have a 6 speed where it was making a whining noise when it was cold but would go away after the car warmed up. Of course as always, the dealer isn't able to replicate the issue once you bring it to the dealership. I told them to keep the car overnight and check it out in the morning. They were able to replicate it the next morning but didn't know where it was coming from. To make things short, they said it was coming from my transmission and they would replace it under warranty. Never heard the noise ever since. This could possibly be the same thing you are experiencing?

New cv joints both sides and no noise = me happy.

I asked my dealer if this is a common issue and they said not until around 95k miles. Mine only has 65k. Hopefully I won't ever need a new pair.

Noticed the same problem on my tl today, sounds like when u have a ground cable that's not hooked up right and makes that annoying sound everytime u accelerate lol. After what I've read in this thread I'm guessing it will be the o ring. Will stop by tomarrow to get one from the dealer.

Was this under warranty? If not, how much did it cost?

Yeap, CV joints should be covered by powertrain warranty.

hey my car started doing this just yest after i got it back from the dealer. Dealer called me up bc they finally recalled the power steering hose. i took it in and the next morning it was very cold. I go to turn the wheel at a stop sign and whalla i dont hear the stupid moan that it used to make... instead during a full lock turn or close to full, i hear a strange LOUD clicking (fast) or can even be described as a popping.

the noise never happens once the car is warm, only when cold, and only in fwd not reverse, and only at very slow speeds.

I called the dealer he said hell look at it since it was just in there but the noise NEVER happened b4. however i have been having a problem with the car pulling left on the highway especially, had the alignment done but still pulling (could it be associated?).

from other websites it seems like ppl r saying struts possibly or strut mount.

also the car has 101000 miles on it.. dam just out of powertrain warranty i guess?

Jungy it seems alot like ur problem. did ur cv replacement resolve the issue completely?

any ideas any help greatly appreciated!

^^a worn CV jt can click when it's cold only b/c the grease in cold weather is not lubricating it well. once your drive for a couple of minutes, it stops clicking. i had this happen with mine. once the weather warmed up it went away. i think i went a winter and half with it like that. ironically, the car spent the night at the dealer for something else. they test drove it the next morning and then asked me if i knew my CV jt was clicking....i said yes. i told them i didn't mention it b/c it wasn't consistent and only happened when it was cold out and after the car sat overnight.

pulling usually is from alignment issues or tire issues.

^^it could be the tires. the DWS tires i have on my car were a bit finicky when i had them installed. i had a lateral pull in one of them (and the idiots at NTB can't balance wheels and tire worth a damn). my dealer RFB my wheels and tires and it helped alleviate the pull i was getting (google: hunter road force balance) you may need to get the wheels and tires road force balanced. dynamic balance will not assess if there is a lateral force pull in the tires like RFB.

2005 TL Auto w/ Navi & 235,000+ miles . I am getting the same clicking noise on front passerger wheel that everyone is describing. I don't want to sink a lot of money into this because of the age & mileage... what happens if left untreated?

Also thinking about retiring the vehicle and purchasing a 2008 TL w/ low mileage (35K). I chose 08 because it was the last year before they changed the body. Hoping to get similar results with the O8 model... any thoughts?

^^it's a $1-200 fix depending on where you go and what parts you use.

if you let it keep clicking...over time the CV jt can seize if the boot tears and spits out all of the grease that lubricates the jt.

the 08 you speak of will essentially be just as reliable as the 05. the CV jt issue...all cars with time and mileage will eventually have issues. hell mine happened with 42k miles on the car (i have an 05 TL). go figure.

Mine have been making the clicking noise since its been really cold here in wisconsin, been reading its the cv's. We just had some warm weather and I could not get the car to do it at all. We are suppose to get colder weather later this week so I will see if it comes back. Im not gonna worry about it until it keeps making the sound when its warm out. Goes away after a couple miles (warmed up). Rather cheap repair but don't let it go to long...

I took mine to a local shop yesterday and told them to let it sit for a couple hours before driving. Of course they called back and said they couldn't reproduce the sound. They offered to keep it overnight and check in the morning. It's 7 degrees here so it should make the clicking sound.

He also told me if it doesn't make the sound all the time it's probably fine. He checked all the components and said everything looks fine. No rips in the boots. I've been living with it for three winters now so I suppose I will have live with it a little longer. Can't say I'm happy my car makes a loud clicking sound when I'm turning. Feels like I'm driving a POS.

I drove mine with the mechanic in the car. It was 0 degrees and the car made the clicking noise clearly when turning.

He said he could take it apart and grease it but told me not to worry about it unless it makes the noise all the time.

So Acura must have used grease that doesn't tolerate cold temps?

^^i have new OEM axles in my TL...no clicking in cold weather.

i also had vibration from an inner CV...i can't stand having stuff making noise or create random sensations that aren't suppose to be there esp when it comes to the actual moving parts of the car. rattles...i can tolerate....until i find them and quiet them.

cold clicking CV joints under 70K: Acura Cust Serv says normal...

2006 TL 6-speed manual. i started to notice clicking when turning and accelerating ("classic CV joints symptom" to quote some Acurazine threads). it only happens when it's cold below 30, and it goes away when the car is driven for a mile or two. I'm in Michigan, and this started happening in the winter at about 68K, still under the 70K powertrain warranty. The dealer was able to replicate the problem, but when they contacted the Acura district representative, he said that it is normal behavior. That is, it is normal in cold temperatures because the CV grease is stiff and that the clicking noise goes away as the grease warms up once driven. I called Acura Cust Service and told them that I find this unacceptable. If this is "normal", then I should experience this behavior in a new car. They said, no, it's normal in a 68-70K mile car... They told me they won't do anything about it, they would only change the axles or CV joints in case of "failure", i.e. when the clicking noise is there all the time cold or warm. I feel I'm being given a load of ... and Acura basically is not standing behind their product. Question: did anybody have any success fighting a decision of an Acura District Representative (the person approving major warranty repairs, such as axle replacements)? If so, what did you do? Write to them? Mention lemon law? Other ideas? Thank you.

^^clicking is NOT normal behavior for a CV joint (in any situation). if it was then all cars would do this in cold weather. what a BS response. go above the district rep. contact corporate directly. lemon law would not apply to your car. the dealer obviously sees that this should be covered under warranty (i hope) and it should. fight it.

The roar sound when you turning is a steering wheel pump! I had the same problem on my TL 2004. When the weather going below 32F its stats roaring. I went to one of my friends (mechanic), he told me that it is 100% steering wheel pump. So I just bought a new one (not from the dealership (too expensive)). so i bought it for 305$ + shipping. But be careful if you will buy the new one. There is a new and a kind of new(re-manufactured or refurbished). better take the new, it's 100$ more, but my friend told me it's going to last twice longer then re-manufactured. But honestly, it's up to you to change it, it's not broken or something, it's just making a lot of noise for 15 minutes. at summer time you won't even hear it.
