Sticking Gear Selector

Sticking Gear Selector
Okay, so I have an 06 TL, Automatic Transmission, and the gear selector is sticking horribly. The piece that keeps you from changing gears still moves ( I took it apart and watched as I pressed the brake ) but it is extremely slow. It takes about 45 seconds for it to completely move out of the way, and the same time to lock the shifter back in place. You can see how this would be extremely inconvenient when pulling into a parking space then trying to back up, or putting your car in park. It looked as if the previous owner had spilled a drink in there, and not cleaned it up, so I took it out, cleaned it up , and it worked for about a week or two perfectly, letting me change gears the moment i pressed the brake. Now it is doing it again, but not moving at all. I sat and held the brake for several minutes and nothing, having to use the little over ride port by the shifter to put my car in any gear. Anyone have any idea how to fix it ? Or does anyone else have this problem with their car? Thanks

Sounds like maybe brake switch malfunctioning of shifter cable or shift lock solenoid?
