Steering Wheel Lights

Alright so i'm having a slight problem with my steering wheel buttons. They will not illuminate anymore, a month and a half ago my cruise control side buttons burnt out with the exception of the cruise button, now yesterday my "mode" button wont illuminate either. It looks like the volume and channel buttons are about to die out as well as they illuminate only a faint green colour, very different from the rest of the other buttons as they are much lighter. What is also very weird is that the handsfree link buttons and voice command buttons are starting to faint as well. The rest of the buttons in the car as they illuminate as they are supposed to. When I first went to the dealership to get the mode button fixed, they said they would not cover it as the warranty for interior lights is 1 year / 20 000 km. They wanted $400 to replace it. Enough said, so i decided against getting the mode button replaced. Now that the other buttons are starting to die out im getting more and more irritated. What should i do? Is this a common problem for my 2006 TL with only 64k km? Why is this only happening on my steering wheel? The sight of my steering wheel lights dying out / not illuminating is starting to greatly annoy me, im sure most of you would agree if you all had the same problem. Any insight to this problem would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure why they would burn out unless they are on ALL the time. Do you drive with your lights on during the day?? I would suspect the bulbs, since they didn't all stop working at the same time. I just replaced the bulb in the volume switch on mine. The reason they wanna charge so much is that the Air-bag assembly has to be removed. Still not that hard. The bulbs are kinda pricey as far as bulbs go. I think the one I replaced was ~$3.50. The air-bag is held in with two big T30 torx-head bolts. It is wise to disable the SRS system to avoid popping the bag, but I never disconnected mine. Just took the screws out and worked the switch connector out from under the air-bag. The bulbs snap into the back of the switch assembly. I wish I was close by. I'd do the job for half that. HAHA. $400!! That's highway robbery. $12 in bulbs and $388 labor?? I'm in the wrong biz...

Try another dealer---these should be covered under warranty. You may also want to contact Acura Corporate to get their ruling. Alternately, you can replace them yourself---it is not difficult to do at all:

First i had one of the heated seat lights out once i fixed that the otherone went out. Luckily that happened while i still had everything apart so i replaced the other one too. Then i noticed the Mode button light on the steering wheel was out . I kept telling myself its no big deal since i didnt wanna have to take off the airbag to fix one bulb but it pissed me off everytime i looked at it so today i finally took the air bag out and replaced all the light bulbs there were a total of six i think. I bought the mini 12v lamps at radio shack for 1.79 for 2 so the bulbs were 6 bucks and locktight for another 6 so for $12.00 i replaced all the steering wheel lights... took me less than an hr. Hope these bilbs will last longer than the crappy honda bulbs. Thanks to everyone at Acurazine for great DIYs.

Hey would you happen to have a part# for the mini lamps?? Right now I am going to replace the mode light but if any others go out I would love to try other lights that would potentially last longer. Thanks!

My zoom button went out the other day on the dash under the nav screen and on the steering wheel the cruise button and the hang up button is out? What is the fix for the zoom button?

I have a few lights out in my interior as well.

The cruise controll is not lit.
On the dash were ther trip and function button live are both out.
and the Heated seats both sides are out. BUT when the seats are activated the RED Led does work,
Just the Indicator leds are out.

Hard to do things in the car when you first buy it and I am still getting used to the interior.
bought my 2004 TL May 24, only 2 days.

any other recommendations on how to do the dash leds and the center console ?

Oddly enough mine seem to go out sometimes and not others...maybe just corrosion over time, I've tapped on the heated seat one and it will sometimes come back. Either way, for some reason I don't sweat it too much. I guess eventually, when enough go out I'll give the DIY a whirl.

It really is not that difficult, especially with the pics and instructions in the DIY. The car comes apart like a Lego toy!

Sorry for this bump...

But two of my damn lights around my navi screen went out tonight. The "Dual" button and the "Off" button for the climate control.

A) I've read through that guy's DIY and couldn't seem to find how to take the stuff apart.
B) How much would the dealer nail me for replacing these bulbs?
C) Could it be a fuse if they went out at the same time?

My phone call button light went out...dealer said, "let us replace ALL the lights in the steering wheel, as sooner or later, your car is now five years old, others may go". $160 parts & labor; Curry Acura, Scarsdale, NY. Everything's perfect now. Good luck.

I replaced all the bulbs I'd mentioned in my previous post. It was about $65 including shipping for the 15ish bulbs I replaced. And free labor.

my bro just got a certified 06 tl and 4 months later a bunch of the dash lights are out and the steering wheel lights come on and off. Took it back to the dealer and they wanted $200 to replace them. effed up that you buy a car certifed and this happens.

then call corporate and they say you are effed.

I think the culprit could also be locking/unlocking the car...if you use that feature alot, it turns on/off all those interior bulbs...dont know why they did it taht way.
