Steering wheel lights?

Just wondering if anyone has had the lights replaced for the buttons on the steering wheel and how much it cost? Mine just went out and my car is 5k out of warranty. I don't understand why they burn out so quick I had a Pontaic before and it was 7 years old and never had a light go out in the interior.

Thanks,

I am interested in the cost too.

My volume control side is out.

Also, how do you get to the bulbs? Anyone done this yet?

There are several threads on this.. I was in the same boat and was going to buy new LED's for my driver side thermostat and my steering wheel audio controls.. but the funniest thing..

My LED on the driver volume / channel control turned on after several weeks of being off. How / Why.. idk.. I just noticed it this past week but I'm going to do some investigating.. so your bulbs may actually be okay and there may be a bridged / shorted connection / ground.

Search the Problems & Fixes forum for related threads. It's not a difficult task to trade out the light / LED.

I read somewhere you need to take the wheel off in order to access the lights....something I am not comfortable with.

I got the lights changed for 60 bucks today at the dealer. They charged me $20 for 2 bulbs and $40 to put them in.

Stealer didnt want or even know that there were bulbs to change. Wanted almost $50 for a new switch and $90 to install it. I plan on researching the LED bulbs for the steering wheel switches, i am just afraid they might be too bright.

Some of those service writers or store front sales people are scary.. I think some of them couldn't open the hood if they wanted too. Next time tell them you want to talk to the lead / master technician and don't let them b.s. you about how you can't b/c all the techs are busy.

I think an A-zine member installed a LED bulb and did report it was too bright but diffused it by shrouding the LED. I think this was for a center console bulb but the principle is the same. It's definitely a trial & error routine. Try searching.. I believe someone did theirs in blue all around.. there's probably a write-up if you're interested.
